New Phoneline and Broadband Advice!

Hi There,
I have been with Virgin for a long time and as they are unable to provide me fast broadband I am going to take up BT line. BT have told us that we have to take either 12 or 18 month contract to get their line. I am interested in TalkTalk phone and broad band but how do I go about getting it with BT line? Do I need to get BT line and then get TT or do I communicate directly with Talk talk? Is it an easy process? Will BT penalise us for taking talktalk? Also i have been told that the waiting time for broadband is 21 days but heard from other people that it can be longer. Will it help if I order it as soon as we place the order with BT? Virgin told us to give 1 month notice. Are there any other services (SKY, Tiscali) which are worth considering? I am not a high user so any cheap deal would do. I am sure someone out there who was in my situation so any help would be appreciated.

Whats wrong with your Virgin Internet?
The speed you will get with ADSL is dependant on your distance from the exchange, and other factors. Do some research, use Samknows to estimate the speed you may get with their mapping engine. It may be that you will be no better off.
Once you have BT for your phone you can apply to any ISP that your heart desires.
Its only if you want to LLU your telephony that they may get twitchy about. Broadband is separate, and you are free to use a BT or rebadged BT ISP service or any LLU services that are available at your local exchange, again Samknows will tell you what is available.
I have a BT phone, pay BT line rental, use Talk Talk for calls, and Sky Mid for Broadband (£5.00) a month. All works a treat (now!)
