Lost my Bank Card, Found and used!

Basically i got off the bus from school and realized i had forgotten my bag which contained my oyster card and bank card along with my school books.
At the time i was worried because i had £16 in the account and that money i was going to use to buy a present for my mum as it is her birthday next week. It then dawned on me that i had done this before and got my bag back just fine so as before i rang the bus garage and they said ring back in the morning as we check all the buses late at night when they come back to the garages, so i did and they haven't got my bag which leaves me pretty worried at this point.
The next step for me was to check my account through online banking and to my surprise the £16 was gone. I rang my bank to cancel my old card and receive a new one.
I realise i was foolish to not cancel in the first place but i was almost certain i would get my bag back the next morning, so now im £16 down in cash, £10 with my bag, and £5 down with my oyster card so i feel pretty stupid right now.
My question is even though i was silly enough to believe my card would go a day unattended and still have the money on it would i be able to ring my bank and ask for the money to be returned, is there ANYTHING i can do to make this situation better?
PS. For once i am asking members to flame me as i feel i highly deserve it.

How did they get the money out of you account without the PIN?
Make sure that you have reported the lost card to the bank, even though the money is now gone.
If you register your oyster card at https://www.tfl.gov.uk then they can put a stop on it if it is stolen and move any remaining money to a new card.
The lesson learned is to report your cards missing as soon as possible, the card can be replaced free of charge for you and the bank won't be annoyed if you later find the card. Looking on the bright side, at least you didn't have hundreds of pounds in your account.0 -
Thanks for the reply, they got the money out by putting it into one of those cinema machines, checked full statement through online banking, "VUE ENTERTAINMENT" it sais.0

Looks like they went to the cinema on you.
You could report it to the police - it will make you feel like you've done something proactive, and should get a crime number. What have you bank said about getting the £16 back?
Otherwise, I guess you can just take it as a lesson. Even if you think you might get something back, you should still cancel cards, phones etc...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
So, that’s a machine that takes the money without asking for a PIN? In that case, you can just ask the bank for your money back. The bank already knows the card was stolen. Tell them that you didn’t authorise the transaction made by Vue Entertainment. Vue Entertainment will have to return the money to your account. Thanks for the reply, they got the money out by putting it into one of those cinema machines, checked full statement through online banking, "VUE ENTERTAINMENT" it sais.
Shops are expected to get the person using the card to enter the card’s PIN. If they don’t and it turns out the card was stolen, the shop has to give all the money back. The cinema has made a business decision not to bother asking for a PIN or a signature. It’s cheaper for them to not bother and return any money in the unlike event of a stolen card being used.古池や蛙飛込む水の音0 -
I agree, if no pin was used you will have your money returned by the bank. You will probably have to fill in some forms and wait a bit, but you should get it back.
The cinema will bear the loss has they have chosen not to verify cards by chip and pin.0 -
Also - If you read the tfl website, in order to get another card with your balance on, it needs to be registered, and they take a £5 admin fee - so you lose the £3 deposit on the card, and an extra £5 for thier fee.~*Cerenia*~

Surely the cinema should have a log of the exact time the card was used and have CCTV of the person who used it.0

Yeah the cinema can easily dig out CCTV and forward to Police. If anything is actually done with it is another matter.0

Forget the CCTV footage and the cops being interested, our country has gone to the dogs!!....The cops are not interested in petty crime. I was in barclays (stamford hill, london) a guy with a hoodie was waiting at the head of the queue for the tills wit his hoodie on and obviously on the CCTv.
He snatched a full wad of £20 notes(i.e £1000) from a guy withdrawing cash and ran. I waited and informed teh manager and staff that I had had a very good look at the guy as I noticed it was funny that a guy was in the bank waiting aside from the queue for the till and put my cash (which I held in my hand) in my pocket. As I had to get back to work I left my number with the manager..
One month on... no call from the cops from a witness who is willing to ID this guy and have seen this guy!!. If they are not interested in a crime of £1000 they are not interested in a crime of £16.
But getting back to the topic call you bank and they should refund you your money as the card was used without a PIN and they can ask VUE for the CCTV footage if they want to verify if you did not use the card yourself...
Best of luck:beer::beer::beer:0 -
That makes me really mad  Well done you for leaving your details and be willing to help, many other's wouldn't have bothered. I hope the police caught the crooks and didn't need your help but I doubt it somehow, call me cynical
