im havving problems with a claim from Lloyds TSB Home Insurance
This Policy was sold to me in branch when i separated from my ex girlfriend i had an interview with an advisor and all my requirements were discussed.
unfortunately i was burgled as i sleapt 0n 06th Jan
the problems in brief are
1.) paraglider £1800, Reserve Parachute £350, Harness £400, Radio n altimeter n GPS £350. thses items were discussed at the time of being sold the policy but fell below the value required to list separately and i was advised i was covered, the insurer Lloys TSB Insurance say i am not covered for Aircraft and any associated items, i have seen my Lloyds TSB branch manager, and in my presence she phoned the insurer and confirmed that i had been SOLD the policy to include these items and even argued the definition as an aircraft as this would be intended to exclude aircraft that would be stored outside or in outbuildings and be of very high values, whereas a paraglide is very myuch a personal item of property and in as my case being the size of an army rucksack kept in the house.
2.) Laptop i use this for work sometime probably 5% work use 95% personal use, i have also had to replace this at my own risk as i will not see los adjuster for another 2 weeks still GRRRRRRRRRRR:mad:
3.) 2 x Model Helicopters (Not Toys) value of airframes around £350-£400 each and the radio equipment in them about £200-£300 each, they havent come up with any specific exclusions yet but have requested proof of ownership, i dont have the receipts i do as with the paraglider have many doesens of photographs, i love my hobbies :j the stinger here is ive been digital for almost 10 years and all photos were on laptop, yes i had back ups of everything on memory sticks in the laptob bag which was also stolen
instead of any kind of feeling of security from my contents policy i now feel let down but i guess thats inevitable.
My personal loss is unimaginable all of my childrens phiotographs that can never be replaced, i am left fighting to regain the financial loss and a big part of my life the hobbies that i will have to take a break from untill i am financially able to replace the equipment
comments and suggestions PLEASE
Thanks
Hedley

In the respect of the points:
1 - This is a mis-sale. You should complain saying what you have said here and it should get resolved. General insurance regulation isnt as strong as other areas but the requirements are that you disclose the key things you are looking for in a policy and the adviser arranges a policy to cover those key things. If the adviser fails to do that then they are liable for a mis-sale (I use the term adviser lightly as in this case it wasnt a real adviser but a bank clerk with a bit of training). As an employee, it is her employer that is liable so you complain to LloydsTSB.
2 - not much you can do about that but insurers are generally sympathetic to items needed urgently and as long as the replacement costs you are claiming are reasonable you shouldnt have a problem.
3 - tell them that. Have you got friends that know you had them. They could act as witness. Were you a club member and they could verify? Is there any parts or boxes left or did every single thing relating to them get stolen? You may not have receipts but can you show the entry on the bank account? Just because you dont have evidence doesnt mean they wont pay. They will make a judgement call.
I would expect part 1 to be upheld as you asked under an advice process and that gives you greater protection than going direct. Part 2 should be fine if you are reasonable. Part 3 is down to loss adjuster and the advice they give. Some of that will depend on you and how you come across to the loss adjuster.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
