Problems with Vodafone contract

Last month I was contacted by Vodafone and asked if, as a valued customer, I wanted to nominate any friends to have half price line rental from them. I said no and then was asked if I wanted to have half price instead. At no point was I told that I was getting a new contract. I agreed and assumed that it would be on my current contract. I then recieved a letter from them, which I have to admit I did not read and a Sim Card, assuming that this was just to do with my change in tarrif.
This month I recieved a bill for my usual phone line and for this new one, so it seems that I have managed to sign myself up for an 18 month contract that I do not want, and did not even know that I was getting! I spoke to Vodafone, and they stated that there was nothing that they could do and because I had not cancelled within 14 days. The letter that I recieved was the terms and conditions.
Does anyone have any advice about what to do about this, I have written to customer service, and I am loathed to cancel my direct debit because of the issues around credit rating. Any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi padders1979,
I'm sorry to hear of the misunderstanding about the additional line on your account. I'd like to look into this for you further and see if I can help. Please contact me using the Vodafone Online Contact Form. Take care to enter all of the requested details, and also include the code FIT135 in your message so that the query comes directly to my team. You can even include a link to this thread if you like.
I hope this helps,
