Police cameras at traffic lights

I think I got flashed the other night whilst pulling away from traffic lights! I'm sure I didn't pull off too soon. Am I likely to get a fine? My speed couldn't have been an issue.

The main reason for these cameras is to determine who`s at fault in the result of an accident.0

Nigel. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

I think it is you who are right. You do not need to be confused.0 -
I got flashed once while I was going through traffic lights that had just gone amber, I was following a really slow lorry too, and I got fined for going through red lights at 33mph. If it flashed twice, expect a fine, if it flashed once, you may be lucky.

Don't see the problem really. If you don't go through red lights you don't get flashed. That's what they're there for after all...? And if you're an 'amber-gambler...' Well - that's exactly what you are. Although - without the speed grid on the road I didn't think they could accurately gauge your speed - so perhaps they have invested in the digital cameras which can..."Only the dead have seen the end of war" - Plato :silenced:0

Enforcement cameras on traffic lights are installed to activate when people cross the white line when the traffic light has been at read for a period (i.e. 1 second). They are activated by subsurface sensors. There is a set just before the line and another set just over the line, which is how they are able to gauge your speed. They do not require checker lines, as these are to verify speeds on a picture and for calibration purposes on film-based speed cameras (e.g. GATSO cameras).
The traffic light cameras do not always flash twice. It depends on the type of camera. If you were caught, a letter of offence will arrive within 14 days, outlining where and when the offence took place, and what the offence is. If there is a criminal case (i.e. points or a summons if you have been REALLY naughty!) a Notice of Intended Prosecution is attached. So, if you wait 2 weeks and no letter arrives, you can relax! It is not the bullet with your name on it, rather the one addressed "to whom it may concern" that should worry you!0 -
Blah blah blah, all very well.
But the OP was pulling away from lights as they went from red to green, not jumping lights or amber-gambling. If he/she is as convinced as he/she says that it wasn't too early to go, then surely he/she should appeal? Surely any picture evidence would have to contain an indication - direct or indirect - of the state of the traffic light at the time the picture was taken? Otherwise it's just a picture of a car halfway across a junction, and what use is that in law?0 -
The OP could still have been pulling away too early, after all i'm sure we've all seen people anticipate the lights and start to move just before they should. You'd only need to anticipate the green light by a second and start to move across the line to trigger the camera.
However, I understand that just because the camera flashes it doesn't mean that there was film in the camera, or that they will be able to process and get the letter out within the time limit.

That's why I said "If he/she is as convinced as he/she says that it wasn't too early to go" - my entire post is predicated on the OP's assertion that "I'm sure I didn't pull off too soon"!0
