Hey JCR, I've just read your thread, that is absolutely horrendous - you must complain, and make sure that when you go back on Saturday you've given clear instructions and everything you need - what a nightmare, but imagine a vets practice not giving aftercare instructions, that's the most basic thing you need. Let us know how you get on on Saturday, and give Monty a big cuddle from me and my pooch.

mum2one, your post made me laugh. OH couldn't get home from work so I had to lug her out of the car myself, but her leg's in a splint and then massively bound up. She's whined basically for the last two hours, I've sat and hand-fed her, given her a bit of water, she's lying under the radiator in the hall and we've just had a real scare and she started making these funny noises, and I dashed out of the office and somehow she's got her collar stuck in the radiator pipe thing! She's got to go to the local vets tomorrow night to get the split and bandage taken off.

I can see it being a really long night as I can't leave her on her own downstairs, I have wine and my knitting.....God, don't you just wish they could speak to tell you how they're feeling - this is why I never had kids, I couldn't cope with the worry!

Orlao, I know exactly what you mean - give it a couple of days and she'll be refusing to eat her food unless I personally hand it to her!

She's sleeping in the hall in front of a radiator, and I've covered her with a blanket, I think she's just totally exhausted from everything, the travelling along to and from the vets was 3 hours just for her, but I'm staying up for a while (hence the post!) just to make sure she's okay.

Mind you, I've had a knackering couple of days as well!

Know that one, - when Whisky was 2 (hes 13 now)he had a grass seed in his paw, operated on, bandaged up, he limped on it whilst someone was looking, so parents gave in, "you can sleep upstairs just to the plaster comes off - he never moved back downstairs at ngt!

Hes so bone ideal at times (cottoned on to beong waied on), than if you give him a treat etc, unless its put right by his mouth, he wont move to fetch it,, even an inch, he taps his poor to point you in the right direction!

Pork scratching, we have a oack ocassionally, the 1st one you give him stays on the floor, he'll eat the rest then goes back to the first!

My daughter thinks its brilliant (shes 5), as a family we were so lucky, whisky had been treated like a baby then all of a sudden this thing appears that cries, poos, eats and takes the limelight off him, thank god, he accepted her, if one goes out without the other they mope,

We live right by the school my daughter goes to and at home time hes out in the garden like a shot he knows what time to expect her!

Bless her, we were out the other say and saw a lady spaniel, daughter pipes up, shes noy like whisky, shes got no swingers!! x

  • I am having a panic about my dog as well today, took her in yesturday to have an xray and arthroscopy to diagnose cruciant problems on her right leg (she had TTA surgery on her left 2 years ago) OH left for work yest morning telling dog its mummy whos taking you, its her thats mean. I got to vets, went into see vet and he said if the arthroscopy was positve then would i be ok with him going stright on to do the TTA (crucient surgery) so i agreed. OMG i didnt have time to explain to my dog whats happening, i hadnt bathed her as i would have doen and i hadnt even taken her for a last long walk. But felt at least it would be less trumatic to her to have it all done in one go. Unfortunatly the vets had loads of emergencys yesturday and beacuse of the lenghth of the surgery shes been delayed til today, so the poor baby has been away from us all night, im all upset and missing her.

the worst bit is i cant even go and get her myself if they ring cos now its TTA surgery she wont be able to get in the car for me and i need OH to come and "Save " her from he vets and pick her up (36kg lump)

Hope your dog is doing ok Alyth and that you managed to get some sleep.

oh and i think i stress more over the dog than i do the kids

God, your poor dog - We seem to be in the same situation, it was cruciat problems that doglet was in having surgery for. And I had to kind of drag my dog out of the car myself yesterday, and she's just a couple of kilos lighter than your dog.

OH had to carry her out to the garden this morning, but of course she couldn't have a wee, so god only knows how long it is since she's been. I can't get her outside myself, and she's managed to stand up herself but is lying in the hall just now whining like mad. It's so distressing, I was up from 5 as she started whining, went to bed but then she started about midnight so got up to sit with her. She's got to go to the vets tonight to get the splint and bandage taken off and I don't know how she's going to cope with that. It's so so upsetting, I feel like evil mommmy from hell for having put her through this - I know it's for her own good, and I've tried to explain, but to no avail!
  • I dont think Jess is going to look at me ever agin, vets just rung, op went well and the joint was remodled to stop the use of the crucient ligamant. now shes on painkillers and they are keeping her in until tomorrow... shes NEVER been away from me for this long before, think im sooo going to get the cold shoulder tomorrow

I doubt if she'll give you the cold shoulder, she'll be so glad to be home, and probably a bit dopey from the operation. my dog has whined constantly since 12.10 when I came onto the pc (I have some work I have to do today) and it's distressing the hell out of me, to be honest I can't take much more, I can't stand hearing her in such pain, I've tried everything, cuddles every 5 mins, food, water, I think she needs to go out but I can't get her out myself.

I do really feel for you alyth - it's horrible when they are crying in pain - Monty (sorry to keep bringing it back to him) was whimpering and it's so awful when there is nothing you can do for them. It's a case of just trying to ride through this healing process time I guess - although it's easier said than done and you just can't relax for fear that they are going to do something. Good luck with your recovery period.
