Egypt advice needed

Im using my dads user name to ask the following questions as this is the first holiday im going away without the family and would love some advice/tips/ideas etc of what to do where to go and where not to go, from people who have maybe travelled here before.

Im going to Sharm El Sheikh the hotel is called Sol Y Mar Sharming Inn,
I am 18 and my boyfriend is 23, we are going for 2 weeks and would like it to be a fun full packed holiday, we both like the idea of swimming with dolphins and scuba diving, where would be the best places to do these, or any other excursions that are good or not as the case might be,the best markets or shops around and also we would like some help with finding some cheap but reliable travel insurance.

Thanks for your help in advance.

  • No advice but we were looking at going to Sharm El Shiek too but have had to cut back with one thing and another.
Just wanted to say that my husbands mate has just got back from the same hotel and he said it was a fantastic hotel!!! So have a great time!!!!!
Also for a good night out for you(I am 26) try Pacha and ask the bar staff and pool staff etc for good deals, its supposed to be a great night out.

Thanks people I am now going to take a look at the sites you have pointed out .
  • We were in Sharm last year and heading there again in a couple of weeks. Certainly recommend tripadvisor.com but whilst your out there check out Namma Bay - you can get cheaper day trips/excusions than through holiday reps etc.
Take a sports bra incase you decide to go quad biking in the desert!
  • This might not apply to Sharm El Sheikh, but my first bit of advice for Egypt is don't drive while you're out there - the traffic is nuts!!!

Definitely haggle if you're buying souvenirs. Usual rules apply - be firm and prepared to walk away. Some places will take UK/US currency (why they'd take a sliding dollar I might question) so bring some along to increase your bargaining power.

If you book with your travel company it will be expensive, you can book cheaper excursions on the beach. The swimming with the dolphins is well worth the money, but shop around for the price. Another great thing to do is the Quad biking. You can do a double (two on the same bike) and it lasts for about 4 hours, great fun and fairly cheap. One tip buy you own scarf at your hotel or local shop as you will both need them to put round your faces as it gets very dusty.

    Have a great trip

Another thing that lots of people know, but you may not,is that when you

arrive at Sharm airport, you will see lots of people clutching 10 quids or 20 US

    dollars to buy a visa.

If you are only staying in the Sharm area (Sinai Peninsular),you do not need to buy the visa.
