Moving House - Cancelling Sky

Should be moving house in just over a months time. Been with them ages so not in any contract, but was just wondering how its works. Is there any notice period? Or do I just ring up and give the moving date and they calculate one final bill? I assume I am able to take the box with me to my new house?

  • just ring them up - if ur moving house tell them so and u can get them to move it for you :) They may try to charge you for this - so tell them as they r charging just cancel it as virgin have an offer to join them which is free.... sky will then match the "free" offer :)

OR, give them 30 days notice to cancel, then when you get in the new place, you or your other half (the opposite of which of you has the contract currently) apply as a new customer to get the new customer offers AND go through quidco for a wad of cashback - this is what me & mrs GunJack just did, got sky+ effectively free with the quidco and they paid out within 2 months :D

    I would call them NOW.
I have moved twice and both times they bodged it up or required notice.

Can you tell me whether you managed to do this by keeping the same phone number or if you had to change phone number (so they didn't know it was you)? Thanks.

Just wondering as we are moving in a few months and thinking about cancelling sky (currently in dh's name) and reapplying via quidco in my name. Only thing that bothers me is because we are staying in the same town we would like to keep our current phone number, which obviously sky have.

I moved into a rental house after selling up in mid Dec and was promised my broadband connection within 5 days of arriving at the new address (I took my number with me). When 5 days had passed, they said it would be 15 days. However, I'm still waiting for Sky broadband now, a whole 8 weeks after the move. I let them know 10 days before I moved but they messed the order up.

I'll be moving again soon when I buy a new house so I'll simply cancel at that stage and re-order in my OH's name via quidco and hopefully get a decent cashback amount. I don't think it should matter whether you have the same number at the new address as you'll be a different person from your OH (obviously!) and technically a new customer.
After posting about receiving an email to my MSE username/email from 'Money Expert' (note the use of ' '), I am now unable to post on MSE. Such is life.

LOL, I tried that, they asked "Are you unhappy with sky?" when I said "Oh no service was great, really enjoyed sky but Virgin have a free install offer, so it seems better than having to pay to move my sky." He then tapped his keyboard a few times and said "Ok, that's it cancelled."
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!
