So this is how I have read it:
PC is purchased as a package
Base unit doesn't work, but monitor does
Store will not refund amount for entire package unless entire package is returned
If I am correct in this interpretation, it was NOT the same person that told him he could return the package and that they would not accept return of the monitor as it was not faulty? It sounds to me like the fact that you and your son are both trying to deal with this and speaking to different people means that it is a case of a misunderstanding in comunication. Did you get the name of the person who told you on the phone that your son could take it back to his local store? Did the local store refuse to take any of the package back in the end? I presume that they wanted to refund/exchange the whole package at once, which is understandable if it was purchased as a set - was he not given the option to bring the whole lot in again when convenient and have it all processed together? From your OP, it sounds as though your son did actually agree to the exchange minus the cost of the monitor, as he now has a new laptop, in which case it might be harder to pursue, but a little clarification might help focus the advice!0 -
I don't understand why he didn't just delay the refund until he had the full package... if he was genuinely going to return to the store the next day with the monitor, he was going to have to make another trip to the store anyway, so what difference would it actually make to him?!
That aside... it would be interesting to see what was on the receipt. Whether the package was just listed as a package with a set price, or if each component was itemised with a stated price and then just totalled as a saving at the package price.By replying to this post you are agreeing to my Terms and Conditions which state that I am correct0
