Hi. I have found this thread really interesting and even more worrying.
I am expecting to hear about a IB medical in the next couple of months. I have been agoraphobic for 30 years. On page 2 paddy's mum posted this link for information about benefits. I can't get the link page up. www.bhas.org.uk
Can anyone help please.0 -

You could try contacting your MP. My OH did that when he got a second request to go to one of these medicals. (the first one went to tribunal, which OH won) He did quite a bit of research on this company and asked a few questions about them.. He went to the second medical with an representative/advocate from a mental health charity, and it was ok.
This thread is a real eye-opener.. I knew what this company are like, but I didn't know the extent of it. Seems they're doing this to loads of people. It makes me angry that they're picking on what are really the most vulnerable people in society, those who are ill, often with mental health issues, who don't always have the ability to defend themselves:mad:0 -
What happens if only one or tw of the low point bits affect me? I was sent the forms a while back and found that only something about walking up & down stairs (it's not that I can't walk; but have balance problems) and something related to vision only apply to me. My only other problems (neck pain & poor co-ordination) aren't on the B150 form.0

If you are assessed as scoring 15 points or more for physical problems only you pass the medical. If you score less than 15 points you fail.0 -
The problem with atos origin and the way they do medicals is the doctors are not just assessing your health, they are directed to also look out for things like claimants lying as the DWP in their good old wisdom work on the basis of guilty until proven innocent which is why they do things like look at your body language and watch claimants exit the building. With this aside I think its a very bad system how someones well been is decided by a one off 10 minute examination and is even now based on a computer questionaire which dictates what questions get asked. Tribunals of course are not flawless either, they will tend to hold a doctors opinion above the claimant.
My own experience of free legal aid to help with tribunals is also a bad taste, I was actually told the reason I had my representation withdrawn was the fact my case was 'diffilcult'. I dread the day I fail a PCA again because I already know the result, I will have no income.0 -
I have just read all this thread and just cannot believe how appallingly you have all been treated!!!!!!!!
Everything single thing to do with claiming something from a council or govt based benefit is such incredibly hard work!
When I was having battles with my local council a few months ago about housing their psychiatrist recommended me seeing a psychiatrist or psychologist on a regular basis as I am suffering from anxiety disorder and depression too. I had to take my case to appeal and my solicitor arranged for me to have long sessions with 2 top psychiatrist/psychologists who proved my condition, yet at appeal the council totally ignored this evidence despite my representative bringing it up - he was told that it wasn't to be discussed!
I lost my appeal and am now under the CMHT and have been turned down for DLA and am also having to provide more evidence. I have an appt this week with a CAB specialist.Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
whilst appealing against a IB decision, what money do you live on?
I assume they stop giving you the IB and if thats the only income you have or a major part of your income - what then?:T Thanks to all lovely MSE'rs - you are great friends :T0 -

You have a choice of 2 options. You can claim reduced rate IS (reduced by 20%) or you can claim Job Seekers Allowance at the full rate. Claiming JSA will not go against you at any appeal.0
