LCD TV 18 months old and dead

We bought an LCD TV 18 months ago for around a £1000, it has broken down so I went back to Currys and they want £120 call out plus parts.
Can someone confirm that this should still be covered under the Sale of Goods Act?
Thanks.

I think that the statutary cover is only 12 months. You might be able to use the sale of goods act because one might reasonably expect a TV to last more than 18 months. I think you will have a fight on your hands though. It may be a good idea to get some advice from your local trading standards office.0

The goods should last the length of time that a reasonable person would expect for goods of that nature. If the goods stop working properly within this period of time, it may be evidence that they were not of satisfactory quality when the purchaser bought them and that her/his statutory consumer rights have been breached. There is no legal definition of a reasonable time. A purchaser may have to find evidence in support of her/his opinion to pursue a claim.0

What size was the TV?
I'm thinking the £1000 price perhaps reflected the size, as 18 months ago LCD were rather pricey.
You'd have to argue the expected life of an LCD TV with the sales of goods act (regardless of size), and at 18 months old, you might struggle.
£120 isn't SO bad, is it? Could you not try and get another quote elsewhere?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Interesting I am just about to go to Currys and rant about a stereo I bought on 22/12/06, It actually stopped working on the 20/12/07 but that is besides the point I know they will only use the date I complain as a starting point, but surely a stereo is expected to last longer than 12 and a half months (with only very occaisional use.)and should be covered under the sale of goods act.0

if its 9.99 then not really0 -
OP not sure if this may help you, I have just bought an LCD TV and on the spec it says that panel life is 60,000 hours so what would be the point of having a panel life of that length if the TV would break before that .'. surely it is unreasonable that it has only lasted 18 months ? Perhaps you can consider this point in resolving your problem.

The problem here is LCD's and plasmas are still relatively recent and there is still debate and conjecture as to the lifestyle of the screens and such
Id have to say I think you would struggle to win under the SOGA
Id try and negotiate for a goodwill payment to the repair0
