I signed up for the £1 offer for 3 months last year. Was a nightmare to cancel the added channels and go back to my usual package. I rang a month in advance to say I wanted to cancel the extra channels and was promptly told on the phone I could only cancel on the last day of the promotional offer. This was extremely annoying as I was to be on holiday in Dublin on the last day of the offer. So, I had to make an international call from Dublin where I was kept on hold for a good 30 minutes to only be told that I needed to cancel in advance to avoid being charged an extra month at full rate. I explained I tried to cancel in advance and was told that there was no reason why I should not have been able to. Kicked up a fuss and was told I would get a credit for the amount but not until my next bill so in the mean time I would have to pay for something I wasn't able to use as they deactivated the extra channels that day.

Be careful when it comes to downgrading your package!
  • How did you hear about this offer? Is it advertised somewhere?

I got a letter about it yesterday.

I guess if they won't downgrade my package easily I'll just threaten to cancel my subscription altogether - it has to be said that Sky's Customer Service department is absolutely diabolical!
  • I took out the first offer of £1 for the three months and cancelled no trouble at all and i have just taken up this new offer for a month free,(i got a letter as well) and was told that it would be cancelled automatically at the end of the free month.

I think it said in the small print that it wouldn't be cancelled automatically- I wouldn't rely on what they said on the phone

Thats for definate, as far as I know, nothing is automatically cancelled....... and don't believe anything you are told on the phone, they say anything to get you to sign up.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

I think Sky don't like me I could not get the cheap Sky + box before Xmas either.

I'm told that Sky will let each customer have one offer every six months, and it's made sense in my case when I've asked for an offer. Maybe you've taken advantage of a promotion in the last six months?

I have only been with Sky since May 07 but I have not had any offers and I have tried them all. I am only on the basic package so that may be why!!

Hmm, I thought it was for everyone on the basic package which is what I get, although I think its the first offer I've ever received.

What I really want is to get the one off fee for Sky+ reduced, anyone had any success with that? I really want Sky+ but £130 seems a bit steep.
