City Link - delivery driver lied about trying to deliver package

Options
I ordered a £100 graphics card from http://www.misco.co.uk on Wednesday and decided to opt for next day delivery via their delivery company City Link, which cost me £11.74. Within half an hour of my placing the order, it was despatched, so I expected to receive it early today. It got to mid afternoon and I was surprised it hadn't arrived yet. I checked the tracking info and it said it had been loaded onto the van at 6am, so no worries I thought. 4pm, 5pm, 6pm - no sign  Later on I again checked the tracking info and it said 'the goods have been returned to the branch after an unsuccessful delivery attempt' and it also said a card had been left  Apparently this occurred at 4:25pm. I waited in ALL day and at that time there were THREE of us in the house. It's impossible not to hear our door, and we were literally a few yards away from it at that time

There was absoloutely NO card put through the door and I am furious they are saying there was. What I think has happened is the driver wanted to knock off early, so logged it as this. He's gonna regret it though because I will be on the phone with them first thing tomorrow telling them they have a liar working for them, nobody came and there was NO card through the door. I will also be phoning Misco to ask for my £11.74 refunded. If they refuse I will be sending the card back(if I ever get it that is) and spending my £100 elsewhere :)

I seem to remember the same thing happening to me 4 years or so ago with City Link - I ordered a guitar effects pedal from Imuso, it never came and the tracking info said the same as this  This kind of thing makes my blood boil, I will be informing Misco that I will never buy anything else from them while City Link is working for them.

This often crops up, and almost invariably with CityLink, they are one of the worst of the delivery companies IMHO, and I will rather pay more and get an alternative delivery method or buy from someone else if that trader wont use an alternative.

i think the case here is that the computer system uses this message as a default for returned items when they are scanned in.
for whatever reason the driver couldnt deliver the item(from what i hear CL work the drivers hard!) so on returning and scanning the item this is the message displayed.
    probably on delivery tomoorrow

this sounds plausible but the type of default message that will aggravate customers as it is displayed on their wesbite to track package!

As with most Couriers they have a quality of service to maintain and also most likely have to refund the customer if the delivery is failed by them (not just a no one home type fail). Drivers may also be on a bonus per attempted delivery, this usually leads to your situation whereby the driver does not attempt delivery for any number of different reasons and so to ensure he and the company do not loose out of it they use the "card left" trick as this fools the system and all subsequent QofS stuff into thinking the delivery was attempted and you were not home etc.

As i said, all couriers do it, I have worked for quite a few in the past and unfortunately it seems to be more and more prevalent now!!

The problem I had with City Link was that the fact that the driver logged the wrong thing. Yes I was out and missed the parcel. On the card it said 'Parcel has been left with neighbour'. O.k... great. Which neighbour? Our block has 20 houses and then as we are on an estate theres hundreds!!

So I tried the obvious neighbours (the ones who I knew would be in during the day in our line of 5). None of them had any idea.

So thought Id ring city link. None of my neighbours have it, what do I do? 'Oh they do, the driver has logged it as with a neighbour. So its there!!' They couldnt tell me which neighbour.

So went further afield, and asked the whole block of 20. No one had it. No way was I going further as that would have been like going to another street.

    Ring city link again.

'Its there! The driver says he left it with a neighbour. Im sorry youll have to go get it. Theres nothing we can do'

Next day I have no idea what to do, none of my neighbours have it!!

So ring city link head office to complain. After holding for ages they finally agree to question the driver.

No call back so ring that evening at 6. 'Oh yes weve spoken to him, turns out he gave you the wrong card! Sorry, he has your item with him and hes going to take it to the collection depot tonight for you.'

    What?!

Great so I got my item, but unfortunately as it was a business phone (and we needed the new mobile number off it) we missed the deadline for the printers we had booked and then had to wait weeks to get the cards / adverts printed up.

If city link had questioned the driver when I first asked them to (the first day!) then It would have been sorted!

    Grrrr

Thanks for all your replies, seems I'm not alone with my disappointment at them :) I phoned them this morning and explained everything, and the girl on the phone went straight into 'fob him off, get him off the phone as quickly as possible' mode  At first she said the driver had tried to deliver it and had put a card through the door, when I told her there was no way he had she changed it to "Oh, he must have run out of cards then" :rotfl:She said she would "have a word with the driver" - I seriously doubt it. She assured me I'd receive the package today, it's coming up to 1:30 and no sign of it yet

I E-Mailed Misco with all the details and relevant reference numbers etc. I explained that I want at least some of the £11.74 I paid for next day delivery refunded and if I didn't receive the package today I would be returning it and buying it somewhere else.

They're not known as Sh*tty Link for nothing.

Strangely I never have any problems with the CL driver in my area.

After 3pm now, I just phoned them and the lady on the phone was much more helpful than the last one. She phoned the delivery driver and I should be receiving it in the next half hour. We shall see.....
