burbs wrote:Thank you all for your help, brilliant. Since reading your comments about July being so busy and trying to go late august i have this morning completly changed the plans.
We are now going on the 26th August to Sept 9th with Direct Holidays and staying at Travelodge International Drive. Price for 2 adults and 2 children is £1964 plus £29 pp transfers from airport as we dont really want the car.
Don't want to throw a spanner in the works, but have you thought about the hurricane season ???????????? 2004 details here
Also, I'd think again about hiring a car. I guess it depends on what you want to do but I'd say a car is a must have.0 -
Oh well, we'll be there a week today, staying onsite so no car as we don't intend doing much other than the parks.
Yes, its going to be hot but as we are staying onsite at Disney intend making the most of the early morning and late evening hours and spending the afternoons resting by the pool

Finishrich - to be honest i had a thought about the hurricanes as someone who used to work for me was over there last year and got caught up in it all but i was hoping it would not affect me this year. Naive perhaps?0

Oh the dreaded H word
Wouldn't worry too much about them - obviously it's worth being aware of the risk of being there for one. I've been there for several hurricanes, the worst being Jeanne last year.
But I've also had many hurricane free Florida hols in "peak hurricane season".
Car hire - imo it's a must. As others have said it does depend on where you stay and what you want to see - but I wouldn't do it without a car.
I find driving there a good experience

I was there last year when Charlie struck, no power in resort/ hotel for 2 days, and restricted park opening times, but apart from pain losing food in freezer/ fridge , and no lights, it was not that bad.
Was very rainy for full 2 weeks , although again did not actually stop us doing what we wanted most of the timeAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
Dear Folks
I am about to organise a Florida trip next year for 14 people (3 families!). Any ideas how best to do this (i) organise myself; (ii) give the job to an agent?
I eally apprecaite the advice about timing - good tip

my friend/boss Steve own a number of large villas in Orlando and will help you I'm sure... less cost than going through an agent or travel consultant. Check his website https://www.floridalakevillas.com and either call him or email. Pretty sure he can arrange everything from the flights, car hire and even park tickets... His villas are lovely !
and no unfortunately I am not on commission, though if it keeps me in a job I'll be more than happy !0 -

Their is a sticky thread at the top of the board called Florida and Orlando or something like that, lots of tips and ideas in that

It is easy to do Orlando without a car....the buses are great especially if you are staying on International Drive which has a trollybus service, going from SeaWorld to the Belz outlet, about every 15 mins.
The regular buses are fine if you want to go somewhere like The Florida Mall, takes about 20 mins from International drive and last time I was there cost less than a dollar.
Cabs are fairly cheap, make sure you get a metered one.
There are loads of coach trips to places like Cape Canaveral.
Although the initial car hire appears fairly reasonable and of course petrol is cheap, the insurance costs in the land of litigation can add a considerable amount.0 -
