Erm I like it the way it is
but would adapt if it was changed. I havent posted many comps on here as I am always beaten to it, but I like to join in on other "stuff", so maybe the proposed change doesnt affect me.
I am of the mind that if I miss a comp I miss it, someone may bump it or duplicate it or I just I miss it.

It's different because the search and thanks functions are integral to the board working well.

i totally agree with you Catz and i would definitely change my posts.
It would be really useful!!
We are already putting a closing date, we just have to stick to a new format. So please let's change it2017 wins over £50: Yorkshire break, Tefal Actifry0 -
It would be a useful change, but I am not sure that it would be worth all the work that kipper and the others would have to do to make it viable.
They volunteer to do this, and take time out from comping, etc, to do it.
The people who have voted for it won't have to do the work.
It would take even more work to give this board functions that the others don't have or need, wouldn't it.
There ARE comp sites which you can use to search by date.

I like it just the way it is. I may be put off posting comps if I have to use a different format.
Well said. Its all right for regular posters to preach for change but if new posters are put of posting by this then it is a loss to the whole board.
Stick as is and let be. Promote the posting of the "Comps ending today thread" that I have seen the last few days (Thanks OP - excellent idea). Surely this is adaquate enough for those concerned with missing the odd comp. As already mentioned by Kipper and others - if you want to search comps by end-time then there are other sites you could utilise

I dont mind either way, I think it will take a bit of time to get used to and to implement. To be honest though if people want to search by closing date etc loquax and prizefinder are good for itWeight Loss - 102lb0

I would like a searchable date format, but if we're considering change (which it looks like we might NOT be!!) then I would only support it if we thought it through properly and made it a sortable format too, so that we can sort threads by comp closing date.
This would be sooo useful on those occasions when the search facility is down.....
1 September (or similar formats) may be searchable, but it's not too useful if you want to sort comps by closing date and it's not specific to closing date, i.e. you could also pick up comps which contained phrases like "Prize must be taken between 30 April and 1 September" with the default search.
Or you'd have to do the extra click to go to the Advanced Search and select "Thread Titles Only" to make sure you didn't pick up those random comps!
I know it's only a couple of extra clicks, but I'm lazy
Also, I'd want to keep the E at the front of the thread to make it clear that this is an end date.
Using a more numerical format e.g.:
E.2009.09.01
lets you search by closing date using only the basic search facility as it is unlikely that many threads will contain text in that format.
This format also lets you sort by closing date as you'd have:
all the comps with thread titles beginning E2009.08.31, i.e. closing on 31st Aug, then
all the comps with thread titles beginning E2009.09.01 i.e. ending on 1st Sept, followed by
all the comps with thread titles beginning E2009.09.02 etc. etc.
I suppose I'm saying, yes - I'd like to change this but only if it is really worth it, i.e we get sortable dates too
While we're having an active and open discussion, personally I don't see the need to include the Email bit in the thread title.
As long as it is in the first few lines of the post, you'll see it when you hover your cursor over the thread title, so you don't have to actually read the thread to know that this is an email comp.
It would then save space in the thread title
Lots of people have something like "Reg/Login" as the first line of their comp post - why not just have "Email" as the first line if this is an email comp?

I'm not sure if this is relevant or not. I used to get really frustrated by all the extra postings of thanks that compers did because it kept bumping the comps and I would miss comps that no-one had bumped, but I caught a comment by someone saying that they sort by newest thread so I thought I would give it a try and it works for me apart from whith regular postings e.g the puzzler post but then I just do a search for that one.
I enter the comps until I come to a comp that I have already thnked then I am up to date, if people are worried about end dates they could do the opposite, find the last comp they thanked then work forwardsnot sure if I explained this too well but i know what I mean :rotfl:

I'm another who likes the board how it is. If we sometimes miss comps then so be it, there are so many comps listed on here daily anyway. I am grateful for what we have here and really couldn't be bothered with such an end date. I only use 21/1 kind of format because most comps finish in the year we're in and there isn't much space to describe the comp as it is. Like others have said other sites like loquax list ending comps by day.0

Just did a survey of page 1 of the forum.
There are 20 threads below the stickies of which only 4 have the correct current form of the date (E:XX/YY) - I'm sure I'm guilty myself of putting the date in wrong, but if we only have 20% conformance now, I doubt very much there will be a better take up of a new date methodolgy. At least by letting people write the date differently (e.g. E XX/YY, E X/YY, E XX/Y, e:XX/Y e X/Y/ZZ etc etc) people can still see whether they are still live.
