You all know my opinion already on posters who "Bump" posts and submit "Thanks" into posts in order to increase their post count.

I KNEW that's what was going on!!

I'm not THAT desperate for another star. Although I have posted three replies in this thread...:rotfl:

NOW I see why certain peops keep saying 'Thanks', etc, when you wonder why they bothered - wasting comping time, and bumping stuff up the ladder.

I thought I was thinking too badly of peops.

    That's my threepennurth now.

    & my 2p worth is,

its a nice idea but people have enough trouble sticking to the current rules. I don't think the present system is broke or in need of repair, it seems to work for the vast majority so I'd be happy to leave things as they are.

I think I find it fine the way it is too to be honest. If I want to do closing comps or specific ones I will hop on over to prizefinder or loquax.

As I said earlier, I would be happy to write in the new format, but it's only going to work if everyone is happy with it. If not, it'll just be confusing - and best if we stick to the current format.

    too many comps..not enough time!

This is a difficult one! I'm trying to have my comper's and BG's hat on at the same time so trying to be impartial but I don't know whether its working!

    boring bit....

I've been on this board since I joined MSE and have seen its meteoric rise so to speak and suggestions are bandied about all the time on how to make it a "better place", I've never had a problem with the end date convention, its neat and tidy and to the point, and now I'm a BG, when I am doing Game Overing its soooo much easier when people have stuck to those rules as I literally have to go from back to front of the board and its easier to spot those ones as opposed to those that stick it on the end of the title or it says Ends 10th Jan etc

The latest suggestion was the thing about putting email in the title if was an email comp

so "if" we was to take up a new end date convention and those who are putting email in their titles stick to it, how long could the header be!....

I'm not even sure that would fit in the space :D

To be honest both the other things you mentioned would be searchable as they'd be contained in the post anway. The problem with the date format is that it is not searchable at all.

1st September is only 3 more characters than E:01/09/08 so I don't really understand when you say it would shorten the title considerably.

I don't see what's wrong with changing the way people write the date. Everyone will get used to it really quickly, and it will make the board a much better and easier resource to use.

And what if its a comp ending the following year? it would then become 30th September 2009 a much longer heading straight away? and not may people put the year in anyway as the standard convention is E:30/09

Still not convinced about changing the whole board just for peoples convenience, the people that post on here have enough to worry about with getting links and answers in without having to worry about a date format, I feel this is getting a tad too serious all of a sudden, entering comps is meant to be fun ( well for me anyway!)

as I see it, if it ain't broke don't fix it, and there are resources for searching ending comps on other websites if people find it necessary to do so :)

I've just been having a quick peek at a few pages on this forum, and the majority of posts tend to be from the regular compers. Very few new peeps actually post comps, either because they find it hard to come across new comps that havent already been posted (like myself) or they're just shy/happy to let others post for them.

If I'm understanding this post correctly, arnt we just talking about adding a few extra characters to the title thread?, which doesn't seem like too much extra work, and not a difficult concept for posters to pick up on, all they have to do is look on the thread above to see the new format being used. I realise that if posters where to go back and edit all their old posts that would be a hell of a job, so maybe we just start afresh from an agreed date.

I have to say, I did find dawnylous thread yesterday very helpful for myself, and being able to do a search by end date would be fab. Hopefully this would also ease the mods workload when they are tidying the forum up for us aswell.

I know peeps say if it ain't broke don't fix it, but sometimes change can be for the better.

I like it just the way it is. I may be put off posting comps if I have to use a different format.
Many tx to all who post constructively in all the forums!

That is just so over-dramatic to say 'changing the whole board just for peoples convenience'

How about moving forward and progressing as we discover better ways to do things? This board really could do with different functions to others on MSE, so it's a matter of making the best of what's available.

55 against 9 have voted for change.

Hardly overdramatic, basically thats what is wanted, something convenient, so the board will have to go through changes, comp forum rules re-written etc if this was to come into play

Why has this board got to be different to any other on MSE, we're not special, its a forum, not a competitions website, if it wasn't for divadee MSE wouldn't have a comps board anyway, maybe we should just be grateful there is one on here

I like it the way it is, sorry catz :)
