I'm sure that's possible but I reckon if some posters are willing to do it it will catch on .... just a matter of the format EYYMMDD could be so confusing with it being 20080

Yes, that's why I thought putting something like a fullstop in as a delimiter, and using the full 2008 instead of just 08 might help make it a bit clearer?Best win ever: Trip to the Galapagos Islands in 20100

Honest Opinion....
At this moment I'm not convinced tbh, admittedly searching the date E.10.01.2008 did bring up this thread
BUT:
This would mean a complete restructure of this board, all the rules rewritten etc, the date convention that is in place now has been there for nearly 3 years now and hasn't done too badly
Also having such a long beginning to the thread means less words to describe the comp!
I know divadee and another MSE'er set up this board so its her baby really, I think maybe you should PM her the link to this (as well as Heather) and see what she thinks.
as for Liz's suggest for a "senior comper" altering dates, I don't think that would work as they would have to be given the "special powers"to moderate ( I believe!)
Me personally I'm not fussed about a end date search facility as if I miss something then so be it, its not the end of the world, there is another comp along pretty quickly nowadays!

I didn't think it would all be possible, honestly, I always operate on a "if you don't ask, you don't get" basis!
I think part of the problem is that this is a board structure which wasn't designed for, and isn't specifically aimed at, competitions....
We could sort of achieve it in a DIY-fashion by adding a post to every thread with the end date in it in whatever format we decide to use, assuming that the OP hadn't included the "tag" in the OP.
Kipper found my thread via the search using the format with fullstops in it, so it doesn't have to be in the thread title (although that would have been useful for sorting... never mind!). The drawback to the DIY method is that we'd potentially have an extra post on every thread....Best win ever: Trip to the Galapagos Islands in 20100 -
Does 10th January work? Might be simpler.I've been lucky, I'll be lucky again. ~ Bette Davis0

This is a difficult one! I'm trying to have my comper's and BG's hat on at the same time so trying to be impartial but I don't know whether its working!
boring bit....
I've been on this board since I joined MSE and have seen its meteoric rise so to speak and suggestions are bandied about all the time on how to make it a "better place", I've never had a problem with the end date convention, its neat and tidy and to the point, and now I'm a BG, when I am doing Game Overing its soooo much easier when people have stuck to those rules as I literally have to go from back to front of the board and its easier to spot those ones as opposed to those that stick it on the end of the title or it says Ends 10th Jan etc
The latest suggestion was the thing about putting email in the title if was an email comp
so "if" we was to take up a new end date convention and those who are putting email in their titles stick to it, how long could the header be!....

I'm not even sure that would fit in the space0 -

You all know my opinion already on posters who "Bump" posts and submit "Thanks" into posts in order to increase their post count.
Quite simply - as what has been mentioned by the OP as "another discussion thread" - some people already ignore the stickies at the top of the board and others ignore the rules. Bringing in these rules based on these experiencies will just not work.
I am of the opinion "Posters have enough to think about without having to comply with a new format".

Yeah, that's why |I didn't put [email] in my last posts from the londoner, as I thought the title would be too long, and as I wanted peops to know that the comps were only for Londoners (and |I only remembered to do THAT after I had posted, and after - by coincidence!! - kipper had posted the relevant bit in the T&Cs).
I do think that this is a great idea, but wonder how workable it would be, given the thoughts expressed by mrs kips above. I do agree that it is diff to come back to the forum after, say, the midwinter break (!) and find yourself with so many pages to go through.
However, and it it is diff to say this now that you have all got me so addicted to comps, I have to agree that 'If it's gone, it's gone'.
