Retracting bids

I am selling an item, and a seller has retracted a bid saying "entered wrong amount" ... she only entered £5... on an item that has an RRP of £20... so i highly doubt she entered wrong amount. Do i report her for this? or just leave it? It's just abit annoying having people cancel bids :-(

oh also, she only retracted it 2 days after she placed the bid

Not much you can do, I would forget about it
  • You say there isnt uch I can do... but there is the option to report people cancelling bids illegally. and I just wanted peoples opinions on wherever to bother reporting it or not... I just don't think someone should be allowed to do that.. regardless of the amount, or we could all run around doing it!

How can it be illegal if ebay allowed the retraction?
  • Report her if it makes you fee lbetter, however I wouldn't. Also I would rather have someone cancel a bid than pull out after they win.

Please remember that every bid on eBay is binding (unless the item is listed in a category under the Non-Binding Bid Policy or the transaction is prohibited by law or by eBay's User Agreement). Bidding on multiple identical items should be done only if you intend to buy all of the items.
It is ONLY OK to retract a bid if...,
    • You accidentally enter a wrong bid amount (for example, you bid £99.50 instead of £9.95). If this occurs, re-enter the correct bid amount immediately.
    • The description of an item you have bid on has changed significantly.
    • You cannot reach the seller. This means that you have tried calling the seller and the seller's phone number doesn't work, or you have tried emailing the seller and it comes back undeliverable.

I'm glad SOMEONE agrees, haha I know it sounds petty over a £5 bid, but like i said... it is against ebay rules, and it just annoys me. I am going to report her now yep! She has been on Ebay long enough to know that you cant do that :o

it annoys me too and i have reported people in the past

i don't know if ebay do anything, but would imagine if they made a habit of retracting bids then ebay might take action, so reporting it would help

Oh btw, in response to your other question, I'm not sure if i can check how many bids they have retracted in the past, so if anyone knows how to do that, then please let me know!

I just looked at the penalties for illegally retracted bids, and it seems that Ebay take it quite seriously! the penalties are just as bad as those for doing things like shill bidding. But as you say.. that may just be if the Ebayer makes a habit of it :o

She might have entered the wrong amount in error , for instance if she was bidding on several items.
I personally wouldn't get too worked up about this, and would just ignore it and move on with your life. Also if you think this person is , shall we say, dodgy , I would rather her pull out of the transaction now than having to deal with a potential non-payer or fraudalant claim of non-received goods.
Give her the benifit of the doubt and wait for your next genuine bidder.
