Sony Ericsson w910i

Options
Hi folks,

I've currently got a contract with 3 which isn't up for another year or so. I've got a Nokia 6288 which is a semi-decent phone but I'm tired of the dire battery life and I'm also looking to upgrade my ipod and I quite fancy combining the two by getting a music phone.

Looking around I think I'll plump for a SE w910i. Best price I've seen this for is £179.99 on play.com (Vodafone PAYG).

My question is this: If I buy the the SE and get it unlocked (if it isn't already), can I just put my 3 SIM in the phone (it is a 3G phone) without any problems? Also, if it is locked, I've seen a couple of guys on ebay offering to unlock for £10 - £15, will this be legit? Finally, how easy would it be to debrand this phone if required?

Many thanks for any help!

Matt

PS - If anyone knows of a cheaper price for the w910i I'd be grateful, £180 seems as low as I'll find though.

  • Getting it unlocked alows it to work on other carriers. The w910i is on Three as it is so unlocking it should allow it to work.

You could always ask Three themselves?
  • Thanks, but I think you misunderstood. The phone I want to buy is the SE W910i which is on vodafone, but I have a 3 contract.

Not sure it would work :(

For a 3 sim to work you need a 3 branded phone. I think they can tell when you put it in other phones, even if they are 3G.

ive used a 3 sim in a orange branded and unbranded handset fine, but you have to bear in mind that you cannot download java apps/games from the 3 wap site but streaming videos work fine
  • If the phone is 3g which it is then three can't stop you using whatever phone you like. It is only when you use a 2g phone as it costs them to pay for you while your phone connects to 2g which they "borrow" from another network(O2 I think). They even offer sim free upgrades if you want to purchase your own new phone or keep your old one. My Mum has the 910i and I think it is a very smart and well laid out phone. The camera is poor but then it is a mobile after all ;)

You also have to change all the 3g/gprs setting as they will be set to Voda defaults and the phone will try to connect through Voda rather than 3.
