Very, very noisy breadmaker!!!!

My Morphy Richards Fastbake BM is about 4 years old and has started to be very noisy. So noisy its impossible to let it run overnight as the noise keeps everyone awake. I have cleaned the paddle thoroughly and also the paddle housing thingy but hasn't made much difference. Any ideas as to anything else I might do to improve things? Is there anything to oil for eg?? Can't find the destructions unfortunately.

Many thanks

I've had this problem with all of my breadmakers but as I dont bake at night its never been a real problem. But I suppose you could very lightly spray the outside paddle working bits with WD40.It should be fine with the heat as it can be used on car engines. But on a food aspect I would do one bread making and ditch the dough just to make sure that none of the oil has made its way inside the pan IYKWIM

Assuming the MR method is water in first, followed by flour etc, then what has probably hapened is the liquid [water] has seeped past the seal & into the gear box, and rusted it.

I have had this with two chepo BMs, my Panny of course has ingredients the other way round, so liquid never gets to seal area

I have also found if you soak the pan interior with soapy water it will also seep past the seal, so never do it, just wipe interior

And next time get a Panny :rotfl: [if cash allows]

PS try dribbling cooking oil on working spindle outside, any run off is at least edible

They're not the quietest beasts on the planet - but noisy is a fairly relative term. Is it just a case of being noisier than you expected?

It might be a good idea to ask your mum if she thinks it's got noisier lately?

Or if any friends have a machine they might be willing to let you hear theirs?

I've got a morphy richards fast bake and I'm sure it's getting noisier as it's getting older. it also makes more noise according to the texture of the dough - a firmer dough made with less liquid seems to make the whole machine rattle about a bit more (does that make sense?)

The other week I'd programmed the machine to come on at 5.30am to give us a loaf for breakfast and it did wake us up. But maybe if it started up every morning then we would stop noticing it as it never used to wake us.

  • I have a brand new panasonic and it is very quiet. I know it's on because I can smell the bread rather than because it makes a noise!

Ours is today, but we have a larger batch in there, so I suspect it's just groaning.
