Humans are omnivores.
I have been reading this thread and noticed a few people saying how hard it is to source ethically produced food on a budget. I have sent Hugh an email highlighting this and have asked if perhaps there could be scope for a programme in which he (or one of the other guys) could show how it is possible to eat ethically within a set budget (I gave him £35 a week).
I completly agree that there would be some guilt when buying intensivly reared chickens, I find it hard to buy them some weeks because of being on a low income, but those weeks I just go without and have it as a lovely treat. Hopefully if more people start buying free range, the price will in turn come down as the demand rises.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

Oh well!
Guys does it matter what we are designed to eat? Surely we choose what we eat? I was designed to able to eat stuffed doormice like Henry the VIII but doesnt mean to say I am going to go and catch some for my dinner!Debt Free - done

Shineyhappy you're right it doesn't matter, I was responding to a comment from ZTD otherwise wouldn't have bothered posting.

Sorry if my comments came across as harsh, its just the arguement that we are meant to eat meat is thrown at me all the time.
I dont know if anyone is watching channel 4 now about the ready meal but go Old Style board! Everyone will be hopefully subscribing to that now as ready meals are coming across as awful but then I guess most of us cant afford them anywayDebt Free - done

I always buy free range meat of all animals, not just chickens. It may have put off my DFD, but worth it in my opinion.0

Hey no worries, didn't come across as harsh. Are you a veggie shineyhappy. I'm vegan but do agree that everyone has free choice and we all choose differentlyx

I agree Dizzy, as does my old gp who (although omni himself) told me we should all be vegetarianThe stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
Yes I am a veggie, would like to go vegan and its something I have thought long and hard about but I dont think my OH would cope! I dont like cheese or chocolate (yuck)so I have a small inkling about how hard it must be if you go out to eat or at a friends house.
We are going to get some ducks or chickens when we move (eventually) for home grown eggs, which will be good. I know being careful about products I wash with and eat has slowed down me paying off my debts but nevermind.
Have you seen www.vegweb.com? I love that website! Loads of fab receipes and links to other stuff including a UK guide to veggie/vegan restaurants!Debt Free - done

Mr Wade, who runs a property maintenance company, fell ill and became jaundiced on a business trip in America with his wife. After returning home, he was diagnosed with cancer of the bile ducts, the tubes connecting the liver and gall bladder to the small intestine.
He underwent surgery to remove his bile duct, spleen and half his liver at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, in July 2002 but doctors could not remove all the tumour.
Mrs Wade said: "They basically told us there was nothing more they could do and we should go away and enjoy ourselves for the three to six months he had left.
"That was when we hit rock bottom. Everything looked absolutely black and we couldn't see a way to turn."
But Mr Wade amazed doctors by overcoming the disease after attending a course at Bristol Cancer Health Centre that taught him to adopt a healthy vegan diet and meditate to give his body the best chance of fighting back. He carried on having scans every three months until all trace of his tumours disappeared. Now he is having scans once a year.
Looks like for this chap a vegan diet could have helped save his life.
