Does anyone know if this works for re-mortgages within the same company where you get charged an admin fee of £150-£175 ??0
-
No, these are mortgage exit fees....

and in particular when you are charged more than you were notified when you signed up for the mortgage.0 -

Hi. Show was great and very informative - i'm new to MoneyExpert.com.
I have been a C&G mortgage customer for 20 years and 6 years ago bought a new house and took out a new 25 year mortgage with 7 years fixed rate. Two and half years later i moved again and asked for the mortgage to be transferred - other than this there was no change to the mortgage. They charged me £100 administration fee - do you think I could reclaim this back?0 -
No as you stayed with the same lender and these are as they say, admin fees for transferring the details of your new house on your mortgage. Had you changed lenders six years ago you would have been charged an exit fee and it is this that could be claimed or at least the difference of what they will have quoted on your original contract with what they eventually charged you.
But keep watching the show and I'm sure you'll find lots of other tips/hints you can use to save money and welcome to MSE.0 -
We were customers of The Mortgage Corporation between 1990 & 2002 and moved to a new property & lender in 2002. In relation to the MEF's we beleive we may have a claim but the lender was taken over by another company & we are unsure who they are/were, although we think it may be First Active Mortgages or Bank but would like to know if anyone can clarify this. The Mortgage Corporation address was Sir William Atkins House 2 Ashley Avenue Epsom Surrey KT18 5AS Company No 01759546. Please could someone advise, we missed out on bank charge claim I'd like not to miss this one. Thank you.:T0

Hi and welcome to MSE.
I've done a quick google search of those details and been taken to this page which mentions the Wilmington Trust (UK address below). Wilmington Trust do deal with mortgages but it's not clear whether they did take over the Mortgage Corporation or not!
Wilmington Trust Company
Wilmington Trust (UK), Ltd.
25 Old Broad St., 11th Floor, Tower 42
Wilmington Trust (UK), Ltd.
London, EC2N 1HQ
I think that's probably just confused you even more - sorry!
Edit: I've googled some more and it does seem as though First Active acquired the Mortgage Corporation (back in 1996?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Active
It may be worth just phoning First Active directly and asking customer services? Good luck!0 -
I changed mortgage with the C&G 18 months ago and was charged a closing fee AND an administration fee for the new one. I have contacted them as I was charged £225 for closing (like the MSE chart) but took the mortgage out in 1989 when it was £35. I'm now geting £190 + interest !!!:T :T0

Thanks for your reply. I'll keep watching. I'll check my records and see what they charged me when I exited my last mortgage with them which was still only 6 years ago. I've got records going back 20 years I think I ought to do some "housekeeping" - it makes interesting reading.0
