Recommendations for Hotel in Barcelona

apartments are great value, but what about the security!! They are usually down back alleys, and not very well lit. We stayed in one on Tallers, just off Las Rambles, and a guy got in our lift with us and pulled out a knife. Luckily I only had about 10 euros left on me from the night out, but it could have been worse. Never again, it's hotels for me.

I must admit i hadn't thought about that, when we went to Barcelona before we were aware of the problems they have with muggings etc but we felt very safe whilst we we there and were just careful about where we put out money and I didn't carry a handbag.

Your post has certainly given me something to think about, we were looking at apartments online last night and there were some lovely ones in Barcelonetta but we rejected them on the basis that that was the only area of the city where we felt at all threatened, I suppose if local scallys know which apartments are holiday lets it makes for an easy target doesn't it

I stayed in the hotel Gran Ronda in December (will try to find a link) it was about EUR 40 a night per room for bed and breakfast (this was based on 2 although I did see a couple with a small child in the breakfast room so I assume they do triples).

Safety- I got mugged whilst there and my mother had her ankle broken. Has totally put me off Barcelona which was one of my favourite cities and I have been numerous times (twice in the last year). Please make use of hotel safes (have stayed in apartments before and neither had a safe) and try not to carry too much around with you. I was in a queue of about 30 people (all tourists) to report it to the police station. They are not interested at all and being the cycnic I am believe that the police are "in" on the gangs that commit these crimes.

Please don't let me put you off, have a fantastic time, just take care.
    Saving for an early retirement!

I'd recommend doing a search on Venere - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
PM me if you want a 4% discount code.

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere (also check out hotelscomparison.com), as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

    Hope that helps

PS - I'm not connected to this website in any way, and I don't gain anything from this post. I also found the discount code on another forum.
  • I went to Barcelona for Christmas last year and stayed at Hotel Auto Hogar on Paral lel. Its not the best place in the world, but 2 seconds from the metro, cheap (was £30 a night for two inc breakfast), and ok if you just want somewhere as a base whilst you explore.

We booked thru ryanairs hotel button and it was cheap and central. Rooms are small, but daily cleaning and a continental food style buffet breakfast kept us going.

Ive done a review on tripadvisor with some photos http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g187497-d280861-r12449831-Auto_Hogar_Hotel-Barcelona_Catalonia.html

    Hope this helps!

We stayed in the Torre Catalunya which was really handy for the railway station and the metro. Bit far from the action but it did mean it was quieter. Got it from alpharooms through Quidco. room rate was £80 for B&B and breakfast was nice - and the view from the dining room spectacular.
  • I just wanted to add that we had a great time in Barcelona! The apartment we stayed in was lovely and was well lit so felt very safe. I would recommend Habitat Apartments. We flew with Jet 2 from LBA and that cost £130ish for 2 and then returned from BCN to EDI (don't ask!) and that was £20 for both of us.
All in all a very money saving trip!
PS. We stayed at the Glasshouse hotel in Edinburgh- absolutely gorgeous!
