Recommendations for Hotel in Barcelona

Does anyone have any recommendations for a hotel in Barcelona, we have been before but I had a tame travel agent at the time and got a great deal on a 5* on Las Ramblas, thats not going to happen again so need some help whittling down from the thousands of hotels to choose from.
There will be me, OH and our 4yr old daughter so ideally we would like somewhere fairly central which does triple rooms or is happy to put an extra bed in a double.
Anybody know somewhere good?
Thanks for your help

I have been having the same problem - though not going until May (but we are a group of 10). There seem to be lots of hotels in barcelona - just not many good cheap ones.
I have ended up booking Suite Gaudi which is relatively cheap but is clean and has excellent reviews from Trip Advisor (apart from someone who could not find the place). It is in a central area - and close enough to shops to satisfy the 6 shop-a-holics.
I also looked at the Market Hotel and the Jardi Hotel - both of these have good write ups on various sites/newspaper articles.
The travelodge is cheap but I wanted somewhere central. (they do have family rooms though).
Usually you dont have to pay extra to have a child in the room but they really seem to add on the charges in Barcelona. booking.com details the child policies and lets you just book by the room (I presume you then contact the hotel who will arrange for an extra bed and charge according to policy).0 -
what kind of standard are you after??
if you're after as cheap as possible (whilst not a dump!) Hotel Continental at the top of las Ramblas and Hotel Opera, right turn down a side street just after the opera house as you're heading down the ramblas were both fine when we stayed there.
my wife found an apartment just off placa catalunya when she went with 3 friends which provided excellent value. let me know if this kind of thing would suit and i'll ask her for the details.
if you're after the more luxury end of the market I can't help!0 -

An apartment sounds like a fab idea, wouldn't have to worry about DD's behaving politely at the breakfast table then (she's not a morning person)
I did start looking at apartments last year when we thought about Barcelona but had forgotten about it until you mentioned it, if you could let me know who she booked it through that would be great, again, there seems to be hundreds.MFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
We stayed at Hotel Jazz about 3-4 years ago and it was lovely not sure if they do triple rooms though. Location wise was great for us - it was our first time there and was handy for everything!

apartments are great value, but what about the security!! They are usually down back alleys, and not very well lit. We stayed in one on Tallers, just off Las Rambles, and a guy got in our lift with us and pulled out a knife. Luckily I only had about 10 euros left on me from the night out, but it could have been worse. Never again, it's hotels for me.The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

I can recommend the H10 Montcada, its bang in the middle of the Gothic quarter, 10 mins walk to the beach and 5 mins to the Ramblas.
Great staff, I got two bottles of free champers, 1st due to a powercut, and second me getting engaged whilst out there :j:T0 -
The metro from Barcelona airport is very cheap and excellent, and it is very easy to get to the resorts : Sitges, Callella, Santa Susannah, Blanes, Callella even Lloret and Tossa etc. During the off-season many of the hotels run really incredible cheap deals (check out www.travelsupermarket.com and other comparison sites. I usually do this and travel into Barcelona for the day, but have the benefit of a superior hotel at night.
