basic bread recipe in breadmaker! help!!!

Well, it's not for the impatient, this breadmaking malarky:p
I sit here with the kitchen wall to my left and I could hear this occasional buzzing (like the constant buzzing of the kneading) and I thought surely it's still not knocking back the dough. Imagine my surprise when I peek throught the window on the lid (yes, it has one yippee) adn there's a loaf-shaped pale thing in there.
It does sort of intermitently buzz so that must be a heat thing or something. I've noticed (now that am over the initial awe of the thing) that it has a cake button, a yoghurt button, and a jam button? I might have imagined the jam button :rotfl:

Yep you can make jam in the bread maker. Does a pretty good job! If it bleeps half way through it means that's the time to add any dry ingredients like raisins.Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790

Hah, it did beep! I wondered why. I had thought to myself that I might set the timer to do bread v early morning for fresh warm bread and then I heard that God awful sound. well, made my first ever loaf (not counting rolls from a tin and foccacia that was like a giant tasty scone) and am awfully impressed.
It was small and queer looking but smelled fabulous. The texture's a bit weird too actually, in a springy kind of way but by no means a disaster. It came out of the tin much better than I thought too (was expecting to prise it out with a knife).

If it was small you could probabally do a large loaf. Or you could try the bread mixes..... or some of the stuff in adventures in bread dough... or.....well you get the pic
The texture of home made is different to store bought but it still is yummy

That's loaf number 1 finished (yum).
DS and I had toast this morning and he calls it "more substantial" (he's 12) and has said he'd take it for packs at school so huge result there. DH, however, seemed a bit "snobby" re the appearance. He conceded it tasted ok though.
This morning it looked and felt a fair bit differently to yesterday. Looked a bit more porous (mind you it might have looked holey yesterday too) but the colour was definitely different, more grey than normal white bread.

Yeah it would have done it in itself. The order i posted of ingredients is the order my machine says to put things in. Liquid always goes in last
If you think about the flour, the machine mixes rests (which makes the dough rise) then mixes again then rests again (i think) which is why it will all go in the end.
Oh! And if like me you don't have a window in your bread machine, don't open the lid anymore as it will make the heat escape and stop the bread rising. Trust the breadmaker LOL!
Just wanted to confirm it really depends on the machine you have. My old Morphy Richards was liquid first so it does differ from machine to machine:)

To aid rising, i crush a vitamin c tablet into the mix, & also use a little more water than the recipe, slightly warmed. The more wholemeal flour, the denser the loaf, so I use 350g white, & 150g of wholemeal & 50g spelt flour. It always rises above the tin!0

I think you'll need to let folk know the type of bread maker, any labels, code numbers etc. the recipe quantities vary from one to another.0
