The fans look OK but I haven't taken the panel off to check, could be blocked inside I suppose.

I'm pretty sure there's only one stick of RAM. One of the fans (at the top of the tower) isn't running, could that be a problem?

yes, if the thing is getting too hot then it can cause problems (fans are easy to replace, Maplins stock loads)

try unplugging and reseating the RAM in the meantime and running it with the side /case off the PC

QUOTE : One of the fans (at the top of the tower) isn't running, could that be a problem? Shouldn't be a major problem but if the pc was designrd with it I would use it. Heat is one of the main causes of early electrical component failure.

I was wrong, it has two sticks of 256mb RAM (have run Belarc Advisor for a full system analysis).

No idea why it isn't running, could it be intermittent?

Installed an updated driver for my graphics card, I think I've done all I can now without shutting down. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
  • wouldnt do any harm as well do run a chkdsk on the hard drive. have seen many bsod fixed by running chkdsk!

    start >run>cmd
    type cmd
    type in chkdsk c: /f/v/r
it will prompt saying it can not lock the hard drive but to run on startup
    type y
    exit out
    reboot the pc
note it may take ages (up to 1/2hr to get into windows)
