The locals told me the drownings are only really in the monsoon season
There's been at least 3 drownings that I know of in the years i've visited, not in the monsoon. The trouble is the currents are soo strong, I have a job staying on my feet in the water. The sea is definitely not safe for children anyway:)The locals that I know well, beat their own children if they go anywhere near the sea, even though they can swim, cos they know of the dangers:)

A lot of the drownings tend to be Indians on day trips...the rate is phenomenal.
The south beaches are a lot broader and shallower than the North, they only get rough and really rip across from March onwards. By April the sea is a deep grey colour with bigger waves, but as warm as a bath. It's quite strange.

try first choice holidays they often have great last minute deals.
If not booking a package consider a week in the north.

Ring your local Sikh Temple, and ask if they run a visa clinic, My local one in leeds does every week and its one of the fastest ways to get a visa.
And you might get fed for free as well, while your waiting, i did.:D

That's a great idea , plus if you look on the indian high commission website, there's a link for all the visa surgeries in each area.:D :D
