PAYG + pop3

Hi

i'm hoping someone can help me out.

i've got a new phone with a camera and want to set it up to email the photos.

HOWEVER, o2 won't allow pop3 access via WAP or GPRS on the PAYG network (you apparently have to have a contract and join their 'Mobile Web').

So do any of the other networks allow access to pop3/smtp via their WAP/GPRS connections?

(or does anyone know any other CSD dialup numbers which might work with o2 to allow me to dial in to another provider)?

TIA

  • Hi,

If I understand you correctly your Mobile supports e-mail and you want to set this up - rather than just send e-mails from within WAP.

Although O2 say they don't allow it - you can still do it providing you set up the correct details - I have been using it for a couple of years on my Mobile.

    For my Mobile I set up e-mail profile with following settings;
[Note this is for an O2 e-mail account - you would need to change some settings for other providers]

Use Data Account; O2 WAP GPRS
    Protocol; POP3
    Incoming Server; 193.113.160.13
    Incoming Port; 110
Mailbox; PUT YOU EMAIL ADDRESS HERE
Password; PUT YOUR E-MAIL PASSWORD HERE
    Outgoing Server; 193.113.160.13
    Outgoing Port; 25
E-mail Address; PUT YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS HERE
    Download; Headers+Text
From Name; PUT YOUR NAME HERE
    Signature; No Signature
    Copy Outgoing; Off
    Check Interval; Off

I hope this helps, my phone is Sony Ericsoson - so may need different setup for other Phones.

    Good Luck

    THANKS!!!

I was pretty sure i'd tried all those before. But for some reason putting in the host IP seems to have done the trick.

I knew it used to work as i used to use it all the time but i just couldn't get it to work.

And o2 have completely refused to acknowledge that it is supported at all. Their customer service centre (in India or somewhere similar) are next to useless and even their UK support seem to be a little confused too: "If the POP3 service was accessible by using a prepay SIM card, it would have been more by chance than management, as the service was never intended to be used on the prepay base."

So thanks again - i've now got it working with an o2 email account.
