new laptop has got virus already...... help

:mad: hi guys really harassed ..... running avg free edition on new laptop i received today..

daughter wanted messenger plus downloaded ... now i have

trojan horse generic6.RYW

ITS IN THE VAULT

AS c/programfiles\adverts\uninst.exe
back up copy
infected


vault says 1 fiile total size 413kb.. size limit is14.9g = 20%



HELP GUY I AM PANICKING HERE

a) AVG caught it so why panic?

b) it is probably the sponsor program for messenger plus - just ignore it, it is not a virus.

do you have any antispyware software installed? Are you getting any popups?

Stop being so stressed over it - seriously, it is not a big deal.

1) Empty your vault

2) Uninstall Messenger Plus

3) Reinstall it, and don't just click 'ok' suring the setup - read what you are agreeing to. There is an option to install it without the sponsor program.

free avg only and google pop up blocker

messenger plus uninstalled....

i have deleted it from virus vault


in 4 years of free avg on own pc never had anything...... new dell arrives toay. deleted the macfee free trial download avg... daughter says she wants msn messenger plus.... and all this hassle...

not being a buff.. i thought here we go

They are antispyware links, av doesn't catch everything.

The instructions with it should tell you how to do restore, usually by hitting a key on boot on a Dell, or using the recovery dvd, but, if you aren't getting any popups, then uninstalling messenger plus and or avg catching it may have killed it.
