Aaarrrgh! Run out of dog food - what to feed?

OH thought I'd bought new bag of food......I thought he had. Went to get new bag.....it's not there. Dog due his supper, what can I give him to eat tonight and first thing in the morning before I get another bag?

He gets fed on Burns normally. What can I give him that will not upset his tum?

No chicken. We had it for tea. :(

Very little in right now, we're in the process of getting a new kitchen sorted so dont have room to store much shopping so we're kind of meal by meal.

Would turkey mince mixed with white rice and carrot be ok? It's either that or sausages and athough I'm sure he'd love them.......I dont really think they'd be all that healthy for him.
  • Yes sure that would be fine. Feed one of my dogs on Burns. A lot of their food is rice based, obviously brown rice is better but white is fine in an emergency.

Turkey mince and rice would be absolutely fine. We often fed our old dog on this as she had a dodgy tummy in her old age and this was reccomended by our vet.

Lol.....he'd better not get a taste for this......it's back to Burns tomorrow!

Thanks all. Panic over now. :D

(I was more worried about the poor dog that I was my kids...they can have toast on beans if need be. :rotfl: )

If it's not too late, I wouldn't use turkey. Most dogs are fine with it, but some dogs get very upset stomachs with it. You'd be safer with fish if you don't have chicken.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

Eggs are fine raw or cooked mixed with biscuits, oats or bread if desperate
Try and do a good deed every day.

Tinned fish is also a good stand in for dog food, mackeral or pilchards are fine, even the stuff in tomato sauce, and a nice treat now and again. I feed my dogs turkey no probs, but I used to have a german shepard with a dodgy tum and he couldnt eat turkey.

Too late. Harley thought all his birthdays had come at once tonight, he scoffed the lot in seconds and licked the bowl out so many times I think the ceramic glaze has gone.

He seems ok so far but he's in bed now tucked up for the night so we'll see in the morning. He's burped rather a lot through.

Another question please.......... if he is ok and has no dodgy tum after tonights supper, would it be best to give him the same again for breakfast or give him something different? It seems a bit like the devil and the deep......give him something that was ok for one time but might be too much for his digestion if given for 2 meals in a row......or give him something different which might cause upset because (a) it's following on from another new type of meal already and (b) it might upset him just on it's own merits iyswim?

Had another rake and found smoked haddock in the freezer. Not sure if the smoked bit would be good for him? Only other thing is tinned mackeral in tomato sauce.

Either that or he starves until the vet opens at 10am as that is the only place locally to us that sells Burns food. He's usually fed at 7.30am so he'd be a very unhappy little dog by opening time.

I don't want to sound cruel, but I would of made him miss a meal, it wouldn't of hurt him till tomorrow!!!
