hi
im off to london on sat to see mary poppins i won this trip in a competition
we have free train travel and i havent a clue where to get off when we get to london
we are staying at the marriott in regents park i think we are going to get a taxi from wherever we get off the train as i have a special needs son and i think the tube will be too busy
does anyone have any advice as to where we should get of the train when we arrive in london
and how much approx a taxi would be to the hotel
any advice would be great as i have never been to london before
also what should we do or avoid whilst there
thanks sammy

Where are you travelling from as there are a few stations in London that you could be arriving at ie Kings Cross, Euston etcITV Winners Club #87 :eek:0

If you're travelling down the east coast mainline you'll be arriving at Kings Cross, if it's the West coast mainline then you'll be arrving at Euston.0

Looks like your train will go to Paddington which according to Google Maps doesn't look too far to Regents Park so shouldn't be too much in a taxi
Actually, google says it's just over 3 miles
Hope you all have a wonderful timeITV Winners Club #87 :eek:0 -
paddington station for the BR part and the hotel is 'near' to swiss cottage tube station ...from paddington you take the bakerloo line to baker street and then the jubilee line to swiss cottage. (less than half an hour)
if you are uncomfortable with negotiating public transport a taxi is your best bet and i haven't a clue of the cost as i haven't used a hackney for many a year0 -
No idea on taxi costs, but there's a black cab taxi rank along the side of the station (i work next to Paddington station). The traffic in that area can be very bad (it's near the edgeware road)
As far as I know, there's no lifts down to the underground at Paddington and it's a very busy station..however, mid-day, the tube isn't really that busy
This link (pdf) will show you where all the major tourist attractions are in relation to one another and major bus routes : http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/central_bus_map.pdf
Public transport is EXPENSIVE unless you get an oyster swipe card. Blue card, costs 3 pounds deposit, you top it up online/at stations and can use it on the bus/underground in london. Example of saving: Bus £2 cash or 90p oyster
Cabs are expensive.. you can ask for an estimate before you get in0 -
Or you get a travelcardringo_24601 wrote: »Public transport is EXPENSIVE unless you get an oyster swipe card. Blue card, costs 3 pounds deposit, you top it up online/at stations and can use it on the bus/underground in london. Example of saving: Bus £2 cash or 90p oyster
And having a travelcard or a rail ticket entitles you to use the offers on https://www.2for1entry.co.uk0 -
Paddington Station taxi rank have a cab sharing scheme, whereby you can share a taxi with people going to the same area. There should be taxi marshalls at the taxi rank who can advise you. Makes it more affordable! Regents Park isn't far from Paddington anyway - just a few stops on the tube, so not far in a taxi.Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0

Well, it's about a 3 mile drive:

I bet it's more. Black cabs in London are expensive.
A zone 1 day 1-2 zone travelcard costs £5.30 You can go on buses, tube or train in zones 1-2 with this. Id recommend getting one of these.
Edit: but if there's a family of you, it might be as cheap to take a taxi.0
