British Gas Central Heating Cover Rip Off

We recently had our central heating service contract renewal documents with British Gas delivered in the post.
Our gross renewal costs were £292 for their Homecare 300 cover and they gave us a £25 discount because we didn't call them out last year leaving a cost of £267. However when I went on their website to look at the level of cover we had, the price quoted online was only £252 and they woud apply to to that a £12 online purchasing discount a difference of £37 or around 10%.
So much for loyalty and not calling them out I thought. I called British Gas and the after some negotiation BG eventually offered us our renewal cover at the web price even thought their agent had to go away and get some authorisation to do this.
My thoughts then went back to the loyalty issue........... If BG are doing this to every existing central heating service contract customer at an average cost difference of £40 in their favour, they must be making a mint of their loyal customers.

Welcome to the forum.
That is the modern trend I am afraid - discounts offered by banks, utility companies etc for new customers that are not available to old customers. They work on the principle that most old customers won't notice.
My bank offered a high interest account that I could not get, so I closed my account!0 -
The BG price every year except the first is based on your central heating system - the bigger it is, the more it costs.
Well done getting the introductory price though.0
