Hi guys
I used to buy everything branded, didnt care what i paid, just handed over bank card or credit card!!!
However in the last two months particularly have been buying shop brands conditioner, shower gel, have to buy branded shampoo tho.
And it has to be l'oreal make up, but i am getting better and think i've got about a years supply of toiletries (exc make up) thanks to xmas. and now cant complain at having birthday so close to xmas. so many gorgeous shower gels, body scrubs, moisturisers etc etc.
Also try to use vouchers, points when i can or BOGOF's
Think i may need to replace straighteners soon. Aaaarrrrrgh.
Any ideas for cheap but decent ones gratefully received.

Buy cheaper is what I do! Tesco, Asda, Wilkos, Superdrug all have bogofs, sales etc and I buy shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, deo etc etc. Won't need to buy shower gel for another year as I have about 6 million in stock cupbaord bought on offer! Shampoo is usually whatever is on offer on tesco.
I usually get perfume bought for me for christmas and birthdays and will occassionally buy duty free if I am on holiday. I wear perfume every day and this is important to me, probably spend about £50 per year on this.
I don't wear make up. Would rather have the extra 10 mins in bed to be honest!
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
Oooh, good thread, its interesting reading what everyone uses and how they get their hands on it! Here goes.....
Cleanser/toner/moisturiser - Liz Earle (my one extravagance (sp?)) either from QVC when TSV or direct from factory outlet on eBay (other listings don't usually work out much cheaper).... but OH bought me a job lot for Christmas, which will last for ages, plus had a couple of free gifts with it that'll do nicely for eBay
Hair - Pantene, from Boots, with points and when on offer (but will look for a similar own brand one to swap with) alternated with a Crabtree & Evelyn one that I bought (£9 each ).... also use supermarkets version of Herbal Essencse (sp?). Would love some GHDs but as I don't do my hair very often, I can't justify the expense. Do like my Tony and Guy haircut, but only go three times a year, and save monthly for it.
Shower - OH loves Radox, so bought when on offer but topped up in the interim with supermarket own brand (smells the same, so it must be pretty similar). Me, Liz Earle as before, plus Molton Brown (one Xmas gift this year, plus still using one from last years Xmas)
Make up - only wear when going out, which as a mother to an under-one, is not very often! Either bought from Boots with points, or gifts.
Body lotion - Molton Brown, gifts as above, plus various half bottles from pre-MSE days
Toothpaste - supermarket own for me, plus branded offers for OH as he is fussy!
Perfume - don't wear often, still using one my sis bought for Xmas last year!
Really the only stuff we have to buy regularly is shower gel for OH (he goes thru it a rate of knots) and toothpaste. I still have body lotions and shower gels from when I was pregnant (DS is 1 next month!), and MiL/SiL got me great gifts for the last two years (Molton Brown body wash/moisturiser from SiL last year, MiL this year, plus SiL got me a fantastic pair of lip glosses!)'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0 -
I have a pair of GHDs but this is justified in my opinion, as my hair tends to turn into a birdsnest otherwise...
I've had them nearly three years, so they're an investment really! I use tesco own brand hair serum stuff to kepp it straight as it works so much better than any of the expensive brands. Whatever shampoo is on offer is the one I buy generally.
I only use clinique makeup and facial cleansers etc, as its they are the only things that don't irritate my face. But I save up my boots points for these.
Anything I need I buy only when its on offer, but as I got loads of perfume and bath stuff for Christmas I won't have to buy anything for six months at least.:heartpuls

Great thread!
This was one of the areas I thought I would struggle the most when we started our road to debt-freedom but actually, it hasn't been too bad.
For all that I am not a glam queen, I did like my beauty products but I don't miss them like I thought I would. Here is my run down...
Cleansing: Liz Earle cleanse & polish when it's on offer as it suits my skin and eyes (so don't need separate make up remover) and I only need on every other/couple of months.
Moisturiser: I need a prescription prepayment for medicines anyway and due to really dry skin/eczema I get E45 lotion so I use this as facial moisturiser too. Even got OH using it.
Shower gel/shampoo/conditioner- buy when on offer and mix and match with what I had left from my previous shopping habit.
Perfume - my one weakness but again, I have a stock and Santa is always very kind and remembers what I like.
Make-up: I have a stash and when I need to replace things, I shop around and get offers eg free Ruby & Millie mascara on a magazine the other month. Mascara is the one thing I change regularly as I had an eye operation and need to be careful about infection, so I change that every 3-6 months.

I never buy perfume - I somehow manage using the bottles I get for Christmas/Birthdays every year. I do however spend around £40 every 2 months on make up & £20 every 3 months on Cleanser/toner/moisturiser. I try to buy as much as possible using my boots points too!!0

toiletries such as shampoo deodorant etc normally buy when on offer in boots, superdrug asda, i tend to shop around to find the offers
make up is a different story as well as things like moisturiser i tend to go for the big names like clinique so normally buy when its bonus time to get the samples or when i get bonus points in boots
perfume, well at the moment im using perfume i bought duty free, usually buy when its a ood deal on the gift boxes i like having the body lotion and shower gels as well as the perfume - sometimes use boots points to get these or i ask for them at birthdays0 -
I don't really buy expensive products anyway. They're not the cheapest, but Body Shop stuff as much as poss, from the animal testing angle. I went for 'no change' in the poll, because to my mind I've found the most reasonable priced products that suit me anyway. Could never bear to waste money on that sort of thing anyway. My wastefulness was mainly buying lots of cheap stuff, rather than buying expensive stuff (as a rule).
And anyway OP - Real men moisturise, don't you know.
Everyone should make the best of themselves!0 -
i tend to do the same as other... as expensive perfumes and things that cost a bob or 2 get people to get you them as birthday christmas mothers day you name it... its win win because you get the stuff you cant afford and they never need to ask you what you want.... and make up well i wear bare minium as i find less is more...
eg. my little hint... buy a cheap black liner and a clear mascara (also very cheap from market stalls mine was 59p) ... it makes your eyes stand out and because your eyes stand out and you dont need to worry about the rest because no one looking at anything else...
and things like face masks... !!!!!! them .... boil the kettle pour it in to a bowl get towel and stick your head over it and put the towel over your head.. clears your pours and your nose at the same time xxx
Still searching .....:)
