Hi, im kinda new here so please dont yell if this in in the wrong place.
Ill tell my story here and then if its in the wrong place ill just move it.
OK, i bought a used car about 3 wks ago from a garage, and got 3mth warranty. I bought a 2000 (w reg) megane. with 56,000 on the clock.
Last wed the car was losing power and sounded like it was mis firing. We took it back and was given a courtesy from them. Today we went to garage to get some news and the car was there but not the engine.
The engine has been sent away to get `skimmed` or something?? and it has 2 broken valves.
So i assume the work is being paid for by the garage, but in my eyes this sound like its going to be a re-con engine now.Would you accept this even though im not paying for it.
What does this smashed valve and skimming buisness, and will the car be any better for it.??
Editting to add, that the car should be ready by early morning so ive only got tonight to think whether i want to keep the car or not or to ask for a deal on another one.
Would you keep the car after buying it, then having all this work done after only 3wks or am i making a mountain out of a molehill and its not really that much wrong???

Thanks for your replies,
What i kind of cant help feeling is i paid £x amount for the car, I didnt pay £x amount for a car with head gasket and valve damage, cos i would not of paid that amount knowing the damage was done.
I suppose if its done properly and i have warranty then i should be ok??2013 Sealed Pot Challenge Member #1960

As long as you don't have to pay for any of it-make sure you get a full written 'breakdown' of what work they have done and that it was covered by the warranty. Just out of interest did you get a HPI report before you bought it to check if it was the true mileage and has the car been serviced as per manufacturer's schedule?
Also check the if the cambelt has been changed as per servicing schedule.
It could just be coincidence or that you've been unlucky that it's gone so soon after buying it, but if you're not happy I would try for a refund and take it from there.0 -
Well i havnt got a written warranty just a 3 month verbal "if anything goes wrong bring it back" warranty,
So i guess he didnt have to do it.2013 Sealed Pot Challenge Member #1960

When you bought the vehicle it would have many minor faults because of it's age and mileage, as there are literally 1000's of moving parts that would be worn to some degree. Fortunately the only major fault to surface was covered by the garage, and is being repaired free of charge. If the work is done to a high standard there is no reason why you shouldn't be happy with your purchase, and it sounds like a decent garage.
Basically when you buy second hand at this mileage you buy it with all it's faults (within reason) as you could be taking it back every day with one fault or another!
i would be thankful He's doing the work without arguing, and look forward to many years of happy motoring!:beer:0 -

Ahead gasket can go at any moment. If it is that, and it does sound like it, there may have been absolutely nothing wrong with it at the time of sale.
As others have said, the garage appear to be doing the right thing, and there's nothing at all to be concerned about if the job is done properly.0
