line rental and isp

now that bulldog and talk talk are offering line rental, will you still be able to use other isp (like bt allows you to) or do you have to stick with their service?
Nice to save.

  • With Talk Talk technically you still pay BT for your line rental (this is called carrier pre-select CPS) and standard ADSL (broadband) would work if you had your calls through Talk Talk. The following is from their website:

"When you join TalkTalk you will continue to be billed by BT for your line rental and all your calls will be switched over to the TalkTalk network."

Bulldog is a LLU service. A further explanation is available at their website:

"Local Loop Unbundling (LLU). Thanks to that, Bulldog can “unplug” your current copper phone line from BT equipment in the Central Office and connect it to Bulldog and Cable & Wireless own network."

I believe that since Bulldog are running their own network, you would not be encouraged (or allowed) to take up broadband with a different ISP if you rented your phone line through them.

It's probably best to contact Bulldog and Talk Talk directly to check this information and speak to the ISP your interested in to see if their services are compatible.

Hope that is helpful, have a good weekend!

Not quite true Madasafish as TalkTalk are now offering line rental where you pay your line rental to TalkTalk.

I would suggest that unless its a good deal from TalkTalk with a package, that you simply put your calls through them as your CPS, leave your line rental with BT which then gives you a greater selection of broadband suppliers.
  • Thanks for the info! Are Talk Talk advertising the line rental on their main website? I'd like to get more information but all I can find is the CPS deal? Thank you!
