am looking for aternative number to 08447734855

No trace of that number on saynoto0870.com, but a quick Google indicates it is for UPS?

So you could try and get through using one of these (from UPS listed on saynoto0870.com) :

    United Parcel Service (UPS) 0845 787 7877 0115 971 6100 National customer services
Redeliveries and other enquiries for all areas
    Fax: 0115 9716049
    Also for: 0845 161 0001
    United Parcel Service (UPS) 0845 787 7877 01792 321000 Swansea
    United Parcel Service (UPS) 0845 787 7877 0113 257 1511 Leeds
    United Parcel Service (UPS) 0845 787 7877 0191 487 8401 Gateshead (Newcastle-upon-Tyne)
    United Parcel Service (UPS) 0845 787 7877 01709 530058 Rotherham

Can I make it quite clear that nowadays the problem lies with the 0844 and 0871 nos. and not with the 0845 and 0870 nos. I run a small business and chose an 0845 no. as this enables customers to call me at a cheap rate and enables me to provide an easily memorable no. for my customers. I am also aware that 0845 and 0870 nos. are often included in free call packages, from BT for example.

Can I suggest that we change the title of this thread from 'Say no to 0845' to 'say no to 0844'.

BUT...it's not free from a mobile and is in fact charged at extortionate rates. Same with the 03 numbers and many others. It's only local rate if you're on a fixed landline so, as lots of people use mobiles as their primary telecommunications device, the consumer is still losing out.
