Wireless Invasion - What To Do?

I agree, this is a police matter, as what this individual is allegedly doing is [strike]tantamount to[/strike] possibly theft..
Fixed it for you. Remember he is innocent until proven guilty.
That said, it is suspicious behaviour. You should be able to tell from your router if he is using it (as someone above also mentioned) to determine if he is or not. Stealing Wi-Fi is a criminal offence and people have been prosecuted for it in the past.0 -
Im always surfing the net on my phone using peoples insecure wifi connection! but it seems im not the only one!!! People should secure these things!!!!!

I find it amazing that people get so worked up about others "stealing" their wireless bandwidth. If you don't want this to happen, secure the connection! Sharing WiFi really shouldn't be illegal in my opinion.0

'Spose I have to lock up my patio set and my cats to stop somebody SHARING them too? Good job I wear a belt as I'll probably not find somebody sharing my trousers when I sit down.0

So you're quite happy to explain to the police and social services if I aprk outside your house and download from illegal sites, and risk you and your family being placed on the sex offender's register?Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
IMHO, I'd keep quiet now that you've locked down your wi-fi.
The bizzies know less about PCs than PC World staff. If you go to them with a story about possibly downloading child pr0n, there's every chance they'll seize all your computers and give you and your son plenty of agro about making up a 'cover' story for d/l filth. Remember they're just chasing easy prosecutions to make their monthly quota for 'solved' crimes.:mad:0 -

And you probably wouldn't get your computers back for a couple of years. There's a huge backlog with computer forensics nationally. Not only are their minimum requirements of proof ridiculous but Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act part three has recently come into effect by which if they find any encrypted data on your computer they can demand the keys and prosecute you just for not giving them the decryption keys. The CPS can also give you a gag order with the request so you can't even tell people you are being asked for your encryption keys. My local police are great and when it comes to aftermath of muggings etc you can't ask more of them. But the way the police and government are with anything computer related I have to say I neither trust them nor have any faith in their competance."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

WRONG!
They have access to specialists who get involved in this area. To know less than some PC World staff you would need to posess anti-knowledge :rotfl:
Seriously, they know as well as we do that broadband theft is an issue so they should at least file a complaint and give you a reference number.
Then any problems in the future can reference back to this complaint.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0
