Sainsburys Credit Card

Options
I applied for this card and got one with around £5000 limit and 0% on purchases for around 9 months.

I used it for a few purchases coming to near £1000

I work away from home most of the time often for longer periods, I logged on the account and see the limit has dropped to £1000 and there is a message saying you are in arrears!

Called them up and they said it was because I never paid the minimum payment of £32 or therabouts...which I couldnt have paid as wasn't on land even!

I asked if they could put the limit up again and the answer was no its not us who does it.

Anyone else had this happen to them and is there a way to get the limit back up....sooner rather than later.

You really do need to pay the minimum each month. That is one of the major conditions of 0% deals. They don't give a toss if you are out of the country as you could have set up a direct debit. By not paying the minimum you are in danger of losing the whole deal and having interest charged at whatever Sainsbury's normal rate is. Under those circumstances there is no way they are likely to increase your limit and you could be regarded as a late payer on your credit file.

I don't mean to sound harsh but those are the facts. Your best bet now is to beg Sainsbury's forgiveness at your oversight and ask, very politely, if they could possibly see their way to reinstate you.

They just said can you pay it over the phone now..and I did.

I asked about the credit getting increased again, women just said its not them that deal with it...

So who is it then, who would I beg forgiveness to as you put it.

She asked if I wanted to set up a direct debit, I just declined and said would probably take my business elsewhere anyway.

Trying to tell me they can put a blot against someones name who has never had bad credit history in their life for £32 flaming quid.

    Surely your having a laugh?

You do have a bad credit history, you missed a payment. Its not bad like you killed someone, but its enough to stop you getting a mortgage and some cheaper loans.

In your circumstances you really should pay by DD.

No, I wasn't 'having a laugh'. The point is that even if you are late paying 1p, you are in breach of T&C - but most cc companies will waive the first offence if asked. I suspect the lady you spoke to knew perfectly well whom you needed to approach, but wouldn't have been much point if you were not even willing to set up a dd.

Let me repharse to be more particular.....I have never had bad credit history prior to this little episode and your talking £32.

I normally do pay by DD, my normal card is set up to take full payment each month, thought would go for one of these 0% deals, it was bad timing as I had to go away at short notice so never had a chance to set up anything on this occasion but I knew I never exactly spent a fortune on it.

I see it as overkill personally

It would have helped matters if you'd have agreed to set-up a direct debit for at least the minimum amount - it would have made it look like a genuine oversight and a compromise - instead of a flat out refusal from you and that you 'would probably take my business elsewhere anyway' - doesn't make you look serious and in control about the account.

From their standpoint. They issue you a 0% balance card with £5k limit. You spend around £1k and and don't make the first payment. So they drop your limit in concern of the other £4k and then you ring up being not very understanding and or compromising.

    It's a lesson learned!

You only have yourself to blame. They gave you a chance to set up a dd but you refuse. You missed your min payment and expect them to restore your orginal credit limit. In there eyes you are not a very good risk and would no doubt appreciate you going elsewhere. I think if you had shown a little more remorse when speaking to them they would have been more accommodating to your request to restore your limit. After all they are only human like the rest of us.

Fair comment, but her attitude was not very polite, thats why I said just leave it.

Setting up a DD payment for minimum amount doesn't really prove anything does it.

We are talking £30 here not £300 or £3000.

She was getting ratty and saying can you pay now over the phone...push push push....while I was mid sentence trying to explain myself.

I am capable paying over the internet when I dont have to work miles from land and capable of setting up DD.

You never heard the actual conversation and I never told all, they do come across like amatuers like most cust services....she said she couldnt do nothing about the limit would have to talk to collections...spoke to collections and they said that is incorrect, usual game of pillar to post follows....you get the picture.

I dont expect anything....I asked what the score was about it and got duff answers.

Read my last post and even if I took up their offer of DD, what difference does that make, her attitude was off before got to that stage....thats why said take business elsewhere.

There eyes and my eyes are two different views, I know my previous history, they are judging me on £32 which I never paid due to no so normal reasons.

I gave them remorse and plenty of it but was met with responces from a robot....badly programmed I might add

I can obviously understand your position. I'd be upset too under the circumstances.

I would have paid at least the minimum payment straight away over the phone and arranged a direct debit for the minimum payment ( to safeguard any future oversights).

With all due respect too you: your talking £30 but they are talking £1k-£5k and you could have arranged the direct debit at any point before going to work as you had time to spend £1k on the card ;)

I would have (re)acted different given the circumstances and politely asked to speak to a supervisor.

I'd call back and speak to a supervisor and or fax the head department - going higher usually reaps better rewards :D

    Good luck!
