Hi, This is my first post! Can anyone tell me which printer to buy that has cheap refills too? I mainly print text and some diagrams. I have a Lexmark all in one, but the printer cartridges are sooo expensive!

Out of the big manufacturors I find epson carts to be the cheapest (thats the design of them)
HP carts have the printhead built onto them (I think the lexmark do as well), I not sure about canon printers.
Epson carts dont have this, the head is built onto the printer. each approach has its pros and cons.0 -
Which? did a report on printer cartridge yield last year, and Canon printers were typically the lowest cost per page printed. Lexmark were IIRC the worst in terms of cost per page.
Most libraries keep the Which? magazines for free reference, so you might want to check to see if they've done an update on the subject.0 -
one of my printers is a Canon PiXMA iP1000. it prints fine and clear, it cost nothing to buy, and if you shop around you can buy refills for less than 2£ a pop
recommend for a cheap printer if you can find one. "If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
If you don't need colour then a laser will be the most economical.
I've heard good things about Samsung, a friend who works from home swears by his Samsung printer /scanner/copier/fax.
I think it was under £70 and you get hundreds of pages/fill.

Personally I have a Canon i560 and had a 2for1 deal on colour cartridges=£15 for 2 each of the 3 colours.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Thanks for your help. I'll be searching for a Epsom or Canon I think!0

best way is to start backwards. ie look at the cartridges and then the printer.
try choicestationery.co.uk and then look for a printer brand to match the cheap ink.
epson normally comes out best.

Epson used to have cheap compatibles but not sure about new ones. Canon Cli-8 cartridges are easy to refill-they are even transparent so you can see ink inside!- you lose ink monitering but they keep working - if you don't fancy refilling yourself there's most likely a local service.0

My vote goes for a Canon too. I have the Pixma 3000 (no longer available but many similar Canons) . The quality is good and the ink is cheap. I also like the fact that I can take it apart when the printheads get clogged up with ink, and flush it under the tap. When everything is cleaned out I dry it out and start all over again.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Last printer I had was an Epson it lasted me around 8 years I've gone for a samsung laser colour now myself.
I went for the next version up to this which is the CLP-300N which comes with the all the laser cartrages when you buy it. http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=244361&CatId=0
You can get the rainbow pack of colours for it for around £70 / £87 which works out between £17 / £20 per cartrage as their are 4 the black does 2000 sheets of paper 5% coverage which works out round 1p for a sheet and 2p for the colour.
I have not had a proper look but have found the ink for £86.07 here: http://www.oyyy.co.uk/product.php?xProd=34167&utm_source=nextag&utm_medium=cse
Anyway it really depends on what you want from your printer and what your price range is I've found this printer great after having an injet so thought I would add my 2pence worth.Kind Regards

I have the canon IP Pixma 4000. I do not print out photos so I don't mind having the cheapo cartridges that I get from www.nd-ink.co.uk They have always worked perfectly for me.0
