hi, Just thought I would let you all know thanks to you I got the computer up and running! yay! :j ! I opened it up and fiddled around for a bit then discovered the memory card had come out of the slot and needed fixing in properly! took about 15 mins for me to find it as its the first time I have looked in a computer! lol

The prob we had then she couldn't remember her password and was worried she couldn't get her music and photos (shes 15!) but we sorted that aswell!

Then.... lol ..... I noticed there was a sound card in there when I was peeking but when we got it running there is no sound ? do you know what I could do? . - this was the whole reason the person took it away was to put a sound card in.... to be honest the sound card looked like it was part on the furniture as it was as dusty as everything else so I reckon that was already there!!

    Soundcard problems...

Simplest: are the speakers plugged into the correct socket? These days the output is often colour-coded green, with an arrow pointing from the centre of a circle outward.

Then are the drivers for it loaded ok? Control Panel, System, Device Manager and see if there's an exclamation mark by it. If so you'll need to find the driver disk or go and download from the makers website.

If the above is ok, have you checked whether sound is muted in Volume Control?

It's a bit odd that the friend didn't comment on the fact that you already seem to have a soundcard there...

I'm wondering this, if you had no sound and thats the reason you gave it to a friend to put a card in and he had noticed there was a card and had sound working so in that case didnt fit a new card, does her speakers work. I am sure the friend would of tried it and if it wasnt working would of said still not working try another helping source as this isnt the case maybe the pc is ok but its the speakers! If so are they plugged in do they work on anything else that plays sound?
