Adding additional memory to a desktop PC

I have a Fujitsu Siemens desktop pc and it is about 4 years old. It is now running quite slow and I have completed all the usual checks, ie, antivirus, spyware, defragment disk, disk clean up etc.
I am looking to add in extra memory. Can anyone explain how this could be done to a novice please.
Below are details of my pc
Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo 600
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.40 GHz
3.39GHz, 512 MB of RAM
Hard disk 152 GB
139GB Free space
12.7 GB used
Is the machine okay otherwise spec wise?
Many thanks in advance
Angela

Done that......
- Maximum Memory Capacity: 4194304 MB
- Currently Installed Memory: 512 MB
- Available Memory Slots: 2
- Number of Banks: 4
- Dual Channel Support: N.A.
- CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
- CPU Family: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz Model 3, Stepping 4
- CPU Speed: 3392 MHz
Does that help?DS Anthony Steven 07.06.92DD Becky Emma 24.01.94DD Rose Grace Jean 12.05.090 -

If it's the same as this one here:
http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/servicesupport/techsupport/consumer/MediaCenter/Scaleo%20600/Scaleo%20600.htm
So therefore the RAM you need is:
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Scaleo%20400%20Series%20%28DDR%29
But there seems to be 3 different versions and RAM types for the Scaleo 600 series...0 -

That that does look like my desktop but the RAM shown is for the 400 series...would that be compatible or would I be better off getting the RAM Browntoa mentions above?
Would this be the cheapest for an extra 1GB of RAM?DS Anthony Steven 07.06.92DD Becky Emma 24.01.94DD Rose Grace Jean 12.05.090 -
