  • Make a sauce for pasta - soften an onion, garlic, celery, carrots. Add a tin of tomatoes, herbs and season. Add the thinly sliced hotdogs and warm through.

Thanks people, I knew you'd come up with some good ideas for me. I think he bought them as a treat for me. I'm not veggie and really miss my meat at times and veggie hotdogs are the only meat substitute that are almost identical in taste and texture. He's away for work next week so I'm going to stock up on real meat for a change!

He does try hard bless him. When we met he did all his shopping at M&S, I've gradually got him into tescos and last night he came home with all sorts of bargains (even remembered to use his clubcard!). I didn't have the heart to tell him that the tesco value bread won't be any good for his sandwiches though. Needless to say he made them up last night, took them to work today and I found them in the bin tonight! Looks like I'll be making some bread and butter pudding tomorrow.

tesco value brown bread is very nice!!

Depends what you consider bread :) . If you're used to homemade bread almost any sliced packet bread tastes odd. Out of interest what are the ingredients in Tesco Value bread ?

they're nice sliced & added to soups ... vegetable, lentil or split pea are particularly nice, but my favourite's chunky Borscht

also good in any dish cooked with cabbage &/or saurkraut, Bigos (Polish national dish) mmmmmmm :)

We had loads of these last year and used them in the slow cooker amongst other things. Just a basic casserole mix, ie tomatoes, onions, haricot beans, garlic and veggie hot dogs. They increase in size and give the casserole a lovely smokey flavour. Couldn't find any this year :-(

I've not tried the value brown bread. We don't normally buy sliced bagged bread but buy the fresh bread instore. Now I'm working from home I'm hoping to start making my own but the value white bread feels incredibly solid and heavy. I should imagine it will be great for breadcrumbs though!

As for the ingredients (taken directly from the packet):
wheat flour, water, yeast, salt, vinegar, vegetable oil, soya flour, emulsifiers (mono- and di-acetyltartaric esters of mono- and di-glycerides of fatty acids, mono - and di-glycerides of fatty acids), flour treatment agent (ascorbic acid), contains wheat fibre.

I like Tesco Value bread for my sarnies  I did make bread last night though cos I walked in and out of Somerfield when I realised they wanted to charge £1.10 for their cheapest loaf!

I mix hotdogs up with pasta and pasta sauce as they are nice and cheap. 29p for a tin of 8 from Lidl.

They are lovely in mac n cheese, with some bacon, maybe a bit of pepper if you have some.
