Onestream Broadband
I have had multiple problems with the speed and disconnection of my Onestream Broadband since 07/01/2025. I was guaranteed a download speed of 60Mbs but, unbeknown to me, this only applied to a local area connection (LAN). None of my devices have a LAN connection, so instead I have to settle for a download speeds of 30Mbs on Wi-Fi that isn't ideal when working from home. I have also found that some of my devices disconnect from the Wi-Fi every so often and I have to reconnect again. I think people should know that their speeds only apply to LAN and not to Wi-Fi. This doesn't seem to be talked about enough on MSE or Martin Lewis's programme.
Is there anything that I can do to remedy this situation? I can't leave the contract early because I will have to pay leaving fees amounting to around £400. However, I will be glad to be rid of them when my contract expires.
Thanks,
TDM

Same with any provider.
Are your devices far away from the router?
Have you investigated powerline adapters or a MESH system?

There are some providers that guarantee WiFi coverage and speeds (never that fast though) if you pay for their booster packages.
ISP supplied WiFi routers are never the best, but an extra access point is not that expensive.0 -
So exactly the same as almost every ISP ever? I'm befuddled as to why you didn't already know that unless you've never had to pay for your own BB previously.
If you joined in Jan 2025 why would there be £400 of ETCs to pay? Surely you've only got 3 months left?

The broadband company has no idea how well WiFi will travel in your home. You might have thick stone walls, or foil-backed insulation panels inside stud walls. They can only guarantee the speed to your router.
You may be able to get better speeds by running a LAN cable to a WiFi hotspot nearer to where you need the WiFi.
Check you're connected to 5GHz where possible. 2.4GHz travels further but is slower. Old USB WiFi dongles for computers can be slower than modern ones.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
No provider guarantees WiFi speed , some will offer coverage (not speed) with additional‘WiFi extenders’ but no provider will guarantee something that’s not within their control, someone with an annex 100m away from the router clearly would be a problem for a provider guaranteeing WiFi speed .
As stated , if the cost for quitting early is too much , consider your own WiFi extenders that can be retained with a different provider , or buy your own higher spec (WiFi 7 possibly) router , but TBH , while in full agreement with your negative opinion of this ISP , in this case chances are irrespective of the ISP , 60Mb at the router is what they would all be responsible for , not the speed from WiFi

Or you might have one of these handy EMF-shielding covers for your router.

It'll stop the CIA communicating with the chip they injected into you along with your COVID vaccination, but won't help your WiFi speed or coverage.
