Fixed ends 7th Feb 2027

Hi, My fixed dual energy ends 7th Feb 2027 which is probably the worst time as looking like the price rise is going up dramatically in Jan. Looking around now all the offers seem really high and I would have to pay £100 exit fee. I know I can move tariff from 49 days before the end without a penalty but for the first time ever I think I will end up going on variable in the hope that it starts to drop and I can then fix. Just after other peoples opinions really please. Unfortunately I will not be getting the £100 benefit as I own a end of terrace 3 bed but its council tax band E.

Thank you

You haven't told us what your fix is currently - but would I be right in assuming that you are paying below the current variable (price cap) rates? If so, then staying put on that until the end of the fix is probably going to be a good call for you - that way you get through the worst of the winter, and at the point where your prices increase you will naturally be heading for the point when you will be using less energy anyway.

I have a lovely cheap gas fix ending next month - yours running through to February feels like quite the win!

I'd stay on it and make the most of your cheap rate then turn down the thermostat on 8th Feb and put a few layers on for a few weeks. Soon after your fix ends it will be Spring before you know it. My March bill is usually half that of January's.

Its British Gas Collective Feb27 and well below the price cap now. Which is why I think it is going to be such a shock when it shoots up.

You have identified the issue so what happens in Feb 2027 isn't coming out of the blue.

I'd be sticking with what you have and then reassess things once you are in the switching window.

We are in the same boat so to speak only ours runs out in March.

We can switch internally to another tariff with our current supplier exit fee free and are so tempted to do that just so we do know what our energy prices will be next year and we won't get such a huge jump in price all at once.

We would be looking at a 6p per kWh hike in electric and 2p per kWh in gas compared to what we are paying now. Which doesn't seem so bad against the predicted unit rates for January and beyond!

My daughter fixed in March for 14 mths so ending May. Her annual cost is £2045, a current 12 mth fix is £3321 😮

+5p on gas and +9.5p on electric !

My daughter fixed in March for 14 mths so ending May.

In hindsight, March was the "perfect" time to fix; prices were relatively low and the Hormuz shocks were yet to come.

Congratulations to your daughter for her foresight!

You have to work out all the variables, and some of those things we can't predict as there is no certainty on what will happen in the middle east and oil imports. For me personally, after working out calculations is just to stick with the fix i'm on and hope things get better very soon. I'm in the same boat as some here with a good fix, Fixed in Feb 26 at 5p~ gas and 18p~ electric. With predictions of the January price cap at 30p~electric and 10p~ for gas thats a whopping +66.7% on electric and +100% gas. Sadly as we have a very old uninsulated solid brick wall house, we dont have much more we can do as usage is high to heat the home, other than turning the dials lower or soaking up the cost. We're expecting a bill increase of 63.8% for our usage. Crazy times, no reassurance from the government, standing charge announcement alone during the budget is going to make me £54~ worse off per year 😓

I'm fixed till Feb 26th, there will be lots of us on Octopus Fixed February 2026 V6 that are protected at the moment but will be having a seriously bad time come renewal. I won't be moving till it ends, and quite possibly not fixing then.

It was my foresight, she was fixed until September and I saw it was cheaper so jumped her no internal fee. Wish I had done the same and paid the exit fee as I would have been better off.
