Wi-Fi enabled thermometer / hygrometer
Can anyone recommend a reliable Wi-Fi enabled thermometer / hygrometer? I have researched Wi-Fi enabled thermometer / hygrometer online, since I know nothing about them, and they seem to get mixed reviews.
Also, the person they are for will want more than one, probably three or more, so they are looking for reliability but not the most expensive ones either. They also want to be able to name them so they will be able to identify where they have them located.

We sort of need a budget too?
I have one Shelly BLU H&T in an additional house I own
Seems to work OK, and there is an app and a webportal
In our own home I have a dozen cheap Xiaomi sensors linked over HomeAssistant at $5 each from AliExpress, but at the additional expense of a whole HA setup and nerdy setup and configuration
Other options are available, your milage may vary etc

Long shot but if they've anything from the IKEA smart range then the TIMMERFLOTTE at £5 is a bargain (for indoors only)

Claims it will work with Matter infrastructure.

There is no specific budget.
They want an uncomplicated simple set up.
How much does the "Zigbee 3.0 gateway" cost and where can it be purchased?

They do not have anything from the IKEA smart range but I will let them know of your suggestion.

£20-£30. Available from Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, and no doubt many other places.

I've had this for a year now and they fit the bill.
AAA battery powered. WiFi enabled. App that I can monitor anywhere. I have them in bedrooms and lounge. They come with numbered stickers so that you can identify them during setup and I name them 1. Main bedroom 2. Lounge etc
Handy at this time of the year as I tinker with heating controls on my Hive setup
Bought from Amazon so could return if they weren't what I was looking for

I have a load of Govee sensors too. They use blutooth rather than wi-fi and have a phone app to display. I also use an HA box to collect the readings together.

Have a look at Switchbot. They do indoor and outdoor thermometers with both temp and humidity. Would need the hub as well (but this can be connected to other Switchbot devices which could be useful if adding more smart home functionality) - the mini hub as the cheapest would be fine but more functionality in some of the other hubs. Had my setup for several years and works well. Work with Alexa and Google so you can just ask Alexa what temperature is on the outdoor meter (or whatever they are named).
Also on Amazon and seem cheaper there

I have a Netatmo weather station, it supports internal sensor units that measure both temperature and humidity.
