Sorry if virtual projectiles perceived.
Actually a good thing that the fraudster was quite so inept.

I read it as rant at self for losing the card.

You need to choose better places to lose your card
Brixton
Sign in station says beware of pickpockets, so I move my phone to right trousers pocket, which is double, with zip on inner part
About quarter of a mile on, maybe I'll check the map on my phone to see how much further, as the junctions on the other side don't look quite as foreseen, though I don't think I've missed the turning yet
Then I'm vaguely aware of some commotion behind me, but I can't hear exact words
A few yards on a thought occurs, what was that slight click noise I barely registered? Did I accidentally pull out my credit card, which I'd just used for the train but not put back in card wallet, click as it hit pavement?
I turn round and go back. A few yards away a West Indian guy is waving my credit card at shoulder height.
"Thank you very much." I hope I was smiling even half as much as he was.

Surely the rant is at either themselves for having lost it or the opportunistic thief who tried to use it and not at the bank?

You heard a credit card bounce? Congrats on your auditory health.
My cards stick to my phone case too, not sure if it's static, cohesion or the Weak Nuclear Force but I've dropped a few cards that way.
RE the Beware of Pickpockets notice - was told that pickpockets hang around such signs, people will give away the location of their wallet, phone by a reflex tap to their pocket when they read it.

My thought as well. Risky to say the least.

I'm surprised the online transaction did not ask for a secondary form of authentication, considering the (presumably) different address

Don't know what the house limits at Sports Direct or NatWest are that will kick in when a delivery address differs from the registered cardholder address but maybe £170 didn't breach them.
