The lower the interest rate, the more has to be in the account to generate £1.20 in annual interest. At 1.1% it's around £109, at say 0.25% it's a whopping £480. Hardly life-changing money, but I'd want to track it down if it were mine.

Ah yes I had forgotten about their Flex Current Account which pays 0.25% after the first year. But of course that is where they pay their Fair Share payment so you could have £100+ of "interest" in there not just £1.20.

OP does your OH actually have any accounts with Nationwide? If so then there should be a page online which shows interest paid in the last tax year (which is presumably the relevant tax year). The problem I had with that page one year was that it only shows open accounts not closed accounts. But if you go into a branch they can get the information about closed accounts as well. If they can't find it that suggests it may not be your OH's account in which you may be trying to get Nationwide head office to correct their mistake which could be a pain.

HMRC can have problems in identifying the owners of accounts. One problem is that the bank will often not have a NI number. Another problem is that two people sometimes have the same NI number. HMRC's online system has told me more than once that the number that I have entered is incorrect. I ignore it, and leave what I believe to be the correct number in place.

Request from HMRC a BBSI statement. It will list each acount that was reported with details. HMRC usually gets interest figures wrong, at least in my case it has been incorrect for the last years and I don't trust HMRC at all.
