Other half has been updating HMRC about interest on savings.
They have told him he received £1.20 actual interest from Nationwide. Can only give him last 4 digits of this account.
N/W have no record of this account.
He has tried My lost bank account and Gretel but no luck
Any advice, what to do next

Any advice, what to do next
Forget about it?
Yes, yes, I know it'll be A Point Of Principle but is the tax on £1.20 really worth pursuing?

My advice, accept what HMRC have told you, pay the tax on the £1.20 and move on with your life.

Is is a savings account that was opened to qualify for the Fairer Share bonus?

But how much is in the account, the tax I don't care. If it's an old account earning minimal interest, could be worth having!!

How long has he been a Nationwide member?
Nationwide used to have internal account numbers in the format xxxx/xxxxxxxxx. A few years ago they went through a renumbering process so all savings accounts have a standard sort code and 8-digit account number.
Is it possible the account number HMRC have is one of the old format numbers? Nationwide should have a record of the old number, but depending who you ask they might not know how to search for it.
Edit: I still had some old format account numbers in July 2025, so plausible this could be an issue as recently as the 2025/26 tax year.

But if Nationwide have no record of it and it can't be found by tracing services, then it seems sensible to assume tat the error is to do with the BBSI submission to HMRC, its sending, or its processing, rather than the account actually being there - has he held savings accounts with Nationwide and how good are his records? Was any interest earned in previous years from this account?
One other option would be to submit a subject access request to Nationwide (details will be shown within their privacy policy) but chances are it'll draw a blank too - worth asking specifically for details of what they submitted to HMRC as well as account data.

It seems the most likely explanation is that an account belonging to someone else was incorrectly attributed to the OP's OH by HMRC. In which case, Nationwide will not be able to disclose anything about it.

Perhaps worth a SAR to HMRC too…

Well to be fair Nationwide do have accounts paying 1.1% interest so it could be as much as £100.
