Changing a window orientation

I have double glazing, but one widow which is side hung would be better if it was top hung. Would this mean changing the entire window, frame and all, or can just the one framed pane be altered?

I can't see any reason why the existing opening sections can't be reused.

But, it would need the recesses for the locks being made - tricky but surely very doable - and the hinges repositioned - easy.

New drain holes - easy.

And then you'd have holes to fill.

How would a top or side hung opener be re hinged?

What about the espag locking system and a new handle location?

OP put up a photo of the window but you will more than likely have to buy a new complete window.

ooh hell no! I’d get someone in to do it, but I wouldn’t bother if it means replacing the whole thing.

Oh right, well it’s not that important, just a convenience, but I wouldn’t go to the upheaval of having the whole thing replaced.

Worth calling one or two ali window specialists, or even very competent handyfolk, and asking for quotes.

They'll soon tell you if it's daft.

How big is the window?

Is it an escape window?

not an escape window, (though if the house was on fire, who knows 🤣) not sure of the size about 1 x 2 foot at a guess

Does the window have fire escape hinges that open the window fully to allow people to get through it?

A photo would help of the inside is good.

Also downstairs or up for the window location?

I’ll ask the company who fitted the windows. Just thought it worth asking on here because someone might have been able to say it was or wasn’t possible, but like most things it seems to be ‘it depends’
