Email reads:

Hello [MyFirstName],

We're aiming to build Full Fibre to 25 million homes and businesses by December 2026 and we're not stopping there. We intend to keep building after that too. That's further and faster than any other broadband network in the UK.

As with any national infrastructure programme, sometimes we come across issues we weren't expecting that affect our plans. We've reviewed our build plans for your area and there will be a delay getting Full Fibre to [My Full Address].

We'll let you know if this changes and when you can make the switch to the UK's most reliable broadband technology.

I've anonymised it, hence the [My…] parts.

I suppose it's good that they have updated me, and I wasn't holding my breath, but it's a bit disappointing, as it means my only options for broadband faster than ~20Mbps are either Virgin Media (HFC) or an Altnet.

Virgin Media (HFC) or an Altnet.

Do you know if one or both of these have cabled your street, otherwise they'll just be reselling a service over OpenReach infrastructure

Oh I know they both have.
I have had my internet via VM (and predecessors) since the late 90s, originally via a second phone line, but after that via a cable modem connected to the coax.
I can see the plastic cover for the altnet at the end of the pavement by my front lawn, since they dug up the pavements a couple of years ago, so I'm confident I could switch to true fibre optic with them, but VM have offered a good enough deal to stay both times round since the altnet were an option.
So VM and the altnet are both genuine high speed options, whereas Sky, who keep suggesting I add their broadband to my TV package, could only offer me a very slow speed over Openreach.
VM have made noises about acting more like Openreach, in allowing others to sell broadband via their lines, but I think currently only Giffgaff do that, and that's only via true fibre optic, not HFC.

I guess, as mentioned, starlink would be another option, or 5g/mobile mifi.
It's just the wider range of ISPs that having FTTP/Openreach would offer that I will have to wait for.
For now VM keep offering decent prices, and the altnet is a good option if VM decided to get silly with prices.
